About This Role:

This Quality Engineer role will have primary quality support responsibility for the Machining manufacturing area.  Machining is a core manufacturing competency in Arden Hills and is part of our vertical integration site strategy.  We are a growing team that supplies metal components to the entire Boston Scientific plant network.  This is a unique opportunity in that you will have the opportunity to learn and support a wide variety of complex manufacturing processes including turning (swiss lathes), milling, and EDM Machining.  This position requires interactions with multiple divisions and value streams across Boston Scientific.


This is a manufacturing support role in which you will work with peer manufacturing engineers, technicians, and product builders to support process continuous improvement and support the quality initiatives.


At Boston Scientific, our products and technologies are used to diagnose or treat a wide range of medical conditions.  In Rhythm Management (RM) we offer solutions for treating irregular heart rhythms and heart failure, and protecting against sudden cardiac arrest.  In addition, we offer solutions with 3D Mapping and Navigation systems, Radiofrequency Ablation catheters, Diagnostic Catheters, EP recording systems, and Intracardiac Access Sheaths.   Boston Scientific develops, manufactures, and markets a broad array of products and services that enable less-invasive care for some of the most threatening cardiac conditions.



Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Develops, establishes, and maintains quality engineering methodologies, systems, and practices which meet BSC, customer, and regulatory requirements.   Serves as a Quality representative on cross-functional teams to improve awareness, visibility, communication on quality initiatives.  Provides day-to-day quality engineering support to the manufacturing floor, product development, and quality system.  Supports existing manufacturing operations and new product teams. 
  • Identifies manufacturing process defects (scrap, nonconforming material, customer complaints), leads/supports disposition of non-conforming material, and assists in identification of root causes.
  • Owns and drives Nonconforming Event and Correction and Preventive Action investigations.
  • Develops, supports, and implements process requirements, quality specifications, quality plans, risk analysis, FMEAs in conjunction with product development team members.
  • Develops process monitoring systems to reduce process variation and scrap, reduce cost, while ensuring product and process conformance.
  • Performs as a member of a cross-functional tecnical and operations team to problem-solve and troubleshoot issues to achieve quality & business goals and objectives.
  • Owns & supports product/process improvement efforts by collecting quality and manufacturing data and performing analysis using problem-solving and statistical tools to improve existing products and develop new products & processes
  • Creates Quality Tools & Training Materials by applying body of knowledge/expertise and communicating to respective teams.
  • Responsible for the final Process Monitor Release for products prior to distribution.



What We're Looking For In You:

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS degree in a technical disipline with 0-2 years of similar experience.
  • Good written and verbal skills
  • Must be able to work independently under limited supervision
  • Must work well in a team environment
  • Knowledge of basic quality systems
  • Demonstrates good documentation practices and ability to maintain deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Self starter able to identify improvement opportunities
  • Machining or component manufacturing experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with product/component documentation, inspection and testing is a plus
  • Experience in the medical device field in a manufactruing support role is a plus
  • A track record of implemeting and driving quality improvement
  • Knowledge of analytical techniques and statistical analysis is a plus
  • Comfortable in a fast pace high variety work environment
