About the role:

This is a unique opportunity to lead a highly talented team of Systems Engineers in the design, development, and commercialization of innovative products. The Systems Engineering team serves as technical leaders for critical R&D projects and works on numerous electrophysiology (EP) products including hardware, software, catheter, and system integration. The team partners closely with all the R&D functions as well as the larger cross-functional team.


The Systems Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the team, driving functional excellence, providing strong coaching and mentoring support, enhancing cross-functional team relationships, and helping establish strategic priorities.


Specific responsibilities include:

  • Manage multidisciplinary team of engineers working on advanced mapping and navigation products
  • Support R&D activities on critical projects spanning across product development, technology development and exploratory work
  • Demonstrates effective change leadership
  • Provide guidance regarding technical strategies and approaches on product and technology development projects
  • Create a culture of high expectations, accountability, strong engineering fundamentals
  • Drive functional excellence and delivery of high-quality deliverables, and ensure technical excellence for product or technical development
  • Work with EP Franchise leadership to establish strategic priorities for the product pipeline
  • Drive development of creative solutions or novel technology to advance BSC’s R&D competency and expand the EP portfolio.
  • Ensure deep understanding of customer needs and integration into the design and evaluation process
  • Builds strategic partnerships across Boston Scientific to further organizational objectives
  • Maintains and enhances cross-functional team relationships and works cross-functionally to identify, mitigate, and resolve technical issues and challenges
  • Lead a team of employees in the achievement of organizational, team and career goals. Guide, coach, motivate, and develop talent.
  • Value diverse opinions and foster a diverse workplace that enables all participants to contribute to their full potential in pursuit of organizational objectives
  • Recruit and maintain a high-quality staff to provide technical leadership for diverse R&D projects.
  • Determine appropriate staff levels, schedules and resources to support product and technology development projects

What we’re looking for:
Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) with minimum of 5+ years of work experience
  • Demonstrated capability to lead high performing technical teams, and to lead and work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Proven experience managing and developing teams
  • Proven technical leadership in medical device or healthcare related industry
  • Experience with Class II and Class III medical device product development
  • Excellent knowledge of Design Controls & Risk Management practices
  • Results-oriented and focused on delivering timely, accurate, and premium execution
  • High integrity, accountability & a strong bias for action
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills as well as organizational skills


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong Systems Engineering experience
  • Proven success with the full cycle of product development including Exploratory, Technology Development & Product Development
  • Regulatory approval requirement experience
  • Experience working in pre-clinical, clinical lab, and healthcare environment and proven ability to build collaborative relationships with physicians and scientific collaborators
  • Experience with electrophysiology products or medical equipment with visualization or navigation
