  • Promote Boston Scientific Neuromodulation through technical support and training of Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) products at current and potential customer accounts within the United Kingdom


The Candidate

The role requires the FCS to become a “Trusted Advisor” within the field of SCS through the following pillars:

  1. Technical Consultant – The candidate is required to become a subject matter expert with the products and technology. This will provide support for the customers as well as the sales team.
  2. Implant and Programming support – The candidate must be able to support SCS implants and assist with post-implant programming clinics
  3. Trouble shooting – The FCS will be called upon for queries, trouble shooting and issues relating to the product.
  4. Selling the next case – Although not a sales position, the field specialist will be responsible for feeding back account/customer information that will assist the sales representative / account manager .


The Role

The focus of the role will be supporting SCS implants during which they will be a performing testing intraoperatively / post operatively with the patient awake / asleep. The role requires the FCS to attend and provide technical support to SCS nurses and pain consultants/neurosurgeons, including training sessions for those not familiar with the products. Routine trouble shooting is required in person but also over the phone. The role will also include help with training and education with workshops and new product launches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial Support: Under general supervision, serve as primary resource for clinical support consisting of tackling variety of issues relating to troubleshooting, programming, and patient follow-up for company products.
  • Educate customers on the merits and proper clinical usage of company products by giving presentations and demonstrations using appropriate formats and platforms (e.g., slides,  manuals) to keep all customers abreast of the latest BSC products.
  • Attend implants in operating theatres of hospitals and attend patient follow-up to assure customer and patient success with the implanted products.
  • Team up with Sales Rep to meet existing and potential clients (e.g., physicians, physician office groups at hospitals) to identify their clinical needs, goals, and constraints related to patient care and to discuss and demonstrate how company products can help them to achieve their goals.
  • Keep on developing business relationships with hospital personnel (e.g., through day to day conversation, meetings, participation in conferences).
  • Respond to customer needs and complaints regarding products and service by developing creative and feasible solutions or working with other related personnel (e.g., sales, clinical, research, marketing, technical support) to develop optimal solutions.
  • On-call duties may extend beyond the “normal” working week.
  • The role will involve nationwide travel, including occasional European travel.


Skills and experience required

In order to fill these duties, the candidate would have

  • A solid science background, preferably with either biosciences or electrical engineering qualifications.
  • Previous medical device experience is preferable.
  • Be comfortable with working calmly in operating theatre environments, able to communicate with hospital staff.
  • It is essential the candidate is able to converse with senior consultants and understand the role of industry within the NHS.
  • Previous experience dealing with customers and representing the technical side of a company will be looked upon favourably.
  • Previous experience with training highly technical products is required
  • Have strong PowerPoint and presentation skills
