About the role:

The Medical Affairs Manager (MAM) is a key role that works with Key Opinion Leaders (Physicians) at key accounts at a national level.  This person works with these Physicians/accounts to develop a strategic partnership across the Peripheral Interventions franchise for BSC, specifically with the Atherectomy and Drug Elution technologies and therapies.  The Medical Affairs Manager takes the lead in driving opportunities and connections that enable BSC to work more closely with key customers by engaging R&D, clinical, marketing, as well as other functions.  The manager will also work with senior management at BSC to align priorities and deliver on those key relationships. The Medical Affairs Manager also serves as a liaison between sales, marketing, and clinical research to support clinical trial execution. The MAM directs and leverages the strategy for major scientific meeting symposia aligned with strategic imperatives, and develops relationships with the leadership of key societies.  


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Facilitate the key interactions of national “Key Opinion Leader” (KOL) physician customers with Boston Scientific through defined corporate strategies.
  • Understand how we are working with our key physicians across functions and be an internal resource for the information.
  • Focus on driving connections and follow through between BSC and its key thought leaders by:
  • Develop tailored coordination strategies as needed to maximize effectiveness of Key Opinion Leader/BSC interaction.
  • Identify key opinion leaders (KOLs) in the industry, expert speakers, and well-known academicians who can deliver the defined curriculum as well as provide technical and clinical insight with real-world applications, supporting the safe and effective use of our devices. 
  • Positively influence & identify collaborative opportunities to engage KOLs in a BSC partnership, identify and facilitate communication and interactions with BSC senior leadership.  Primary ownership of physician relationships, representing clinical expertise with the atherectomy and drug elution franchises, and BSC Global clinical program. 
  • Lead strategic planning of relevant symposium and sponsored educational events at the major and regional conferences.  Identify educational gaps/needs and incorporate into future symposia/training.
  • Facilitate faculty alignment on symposia format and objectives.  Coordinate speaker presentations with faculty, and Legal & Regulatory review/approval.
  • Support Med Ed team content development, align technology and therapy objectives, and provide slides in prep of BSC sponsored events as well as conference invited talks. 
  • Act as a liaison for clinical trial execution, including site selection, physician training, and procedural support, as needed.
  • Interact with Clinical, Marketing, Sales Leadership, Senior Management and other key functions; act as a catalyst to cross functional collaboration.
  • Maintain communication cadence with Key Opinion Leaders between events/congresses to ensure follow and key deliverables that help BSC achieve its goals and objectives.
  • Ensure Key Opinion Leaders and podium influencers have the latest BSC clinical data and pipeline information, establishing collaboration on speaker deck resources.
  • Work to solve clinical questions that may arise surrounding clinical research and ISR opportunities – conduit to linking the site/KOL to the appropriate channels.
  • Identify and communicate needs and opportunities with the Clinical team.  Provide guidance and input to the ISR process.  Support Steering Committee meetings, and Advisory Boards.
  • Serve as the primary contact with key peripheral interventional societies. Develop & enhance societal relationships, build and maintain partnerships.
  • Facilitate annual meetings with BSC and key societal leadership to share vision, and understand mutual areas of interest and collaboration.
  • Develop and maintain a working level of expertise in all marketed and pipeline Peripheral Interventional products – particular focus on Atherectomy and Drug-Eluting technologies. Develop and maintain a solid knowledge base of current developments in relevant fields of interventional procedures and other BSC divisions.  

What we’re looking for:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 8+ years of medical marketing/clinical/sales experience
  • Extensive customer facing experience, KOL engagement/relationship building necessary
  • Proven experience as a Medical or Scientific Affairs Manager, Medical Device Sales and/or Marketing, Market Development, Medical Education
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft office suite, especially MS Word and PowerPoint.
  • Will include travel (50%) to medical meetings, hospitals, and/or other BSC facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cardiovascular, Peripheral, and/or Interventional experience preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • High sense of urgency and commitment to execution
  • Strong skills in building solid rapport and relationships with key physicians and medical leadership
  • Strong interpersonal skills to enable cross function/franchise success, team player
  • Ability to translate voice of customer and market dynamics into the organization
  • Must have the ability to manage simultaneous priorities, changing deadlines, and limited resources
