About the role:

A developing professional responsible for ensuring the Quality of the raw materials that are being used in the elaboration of medical devices, ensuring they comply with Regulations, Standards, Corporate and Site specifications as well as specific contract requirements. With a working knowledge of manufacturing processes, supplier relations and application of business and technical concepts. Drives improvement and corrective action in the quality of components sourced from outside suppliers. Provides technical support in the selection of suppliers. Develops acceptance criteria for materials. Monitors supplier performance to drive supplier corrective action, manufacturing yield issues and field failures. Has knowledge of Medical Device metal components specifications and their manufacturing processes.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assess potential new suppliers for technical, quality and manufacturing capabilities through Quality Management System Audits. Provides technical support for the introduction of components from a new supplier.
  • Generates and maintains incoming inspection procedures. Trains inspectors to these procedures.
  • Develops and/or sources inspection tools and equipment.
  • Assists in generating component specifications.
  • Generate test protocols, monitor testing, issue qualification test reports and approve components for use in products.
  • Provide input to Design Engineering on new component technology and assist in component selection with quality and reliability analysis.
  • Analyzes incoming material defects, dispositions them and drives corrective action with suppliers as necessary. Ensures Problem Solving Methodologies and Quality Tools are used by suppliers to obtain root cause of events and drive improvements.
  • Reviews new design specifications and provides input from component quality and manufacturability perspective.
  • Investigates field failures related to supplier materials. Develop corrective action plan where necessary.
  • May supervise inspectors or junior engineers.

 

What we’re looking for in you:

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering/technical field such as materials science, chemical or mechanical engineering. Engineering experience in manufacturing floor, high pace medical device operations environment (2-5 years relevant industry experience) and component supplier manufacturing process.
  • Experience solving problems of moderate scope and complexity by use of Quality Tools.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills 
  • Domestic and international travel up to 10%. Note: COVID-19 precautions currently restrict travel. At Boston Scientific, our priority is to protect and aid the health and safety of our employees, our physician customers, and their patients.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with metal materials/components specifications and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with Laboratory Equipment: Measuring Tools and Failure Analysis.
  • Experience with Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001, ISO 13485).
  • Experience with inspection methods for components i.e. analytical or dimensional test methods.
  • Experience with Problem Solving / Quality Tools.
