About the role:

The Senior R&D Engineer orchestrates the development and evolution of software and cybersecurity aspects of software-based systems, from defining requirements through operation and ultimately until system retirement. They assure that domain experts are properly involved, all advantageous opportunities are pursued, and all significant risks are identified and, when possible, mitigated. The R&D Engineer works closely with the System and sub-system technical leads for software-based systems to meet the needs of their specific project.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Leads software and cybersecurity efforts for all software-based systems sustained by and being developed by the Endoscopy Division.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional experts in defining, selecting and implementing cybersecurity for products and systems.
  • Develops solutions to complex technical problems in collaboration with project technical team and global product cybersecurity.
  • Defines process or technology that delivers significant advances, with buy-in from cross-functional team.
  • Determines cross functional product security requirements. 
  • Provides security architecture support with recommendations for medical device products.
  • Completes cybersecurity risk assessment during assessment of new designs and technologies.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional team to assess and solve post market cybersecurity issues in medical devices.
  • Drives risk assessments of newly found vulnerabilities and mitigation of risk in products in Sustaining post-launch.
  • Provides software support to sustain products post-launch.
  • Provides technical support for electrical systems beyond software and cybersecurity as needed.
  • Monitors common security patterns applicable to medical devices.
  • Recognizes architectural problem areas and determines ways to effectively resolve them.
     

What we’re looking for in you:

  • 5+ years in product development in both hardware and software with an aptitude to become an expert in security required; 5+ years in software cybersecurity development for products/systems in lead roles preferred.
  • Experience in a regulated medical device or other regulated environment preferred.
  • Degree in Computer Science or engineering field (electrical, computer, software or related discipline).  Bachelors required.
  • Experienced engineering professional with wide-ranging experience and expertise in medical device cybersecurity and medical device design and development or similar safety-critical, embedded system
  • A proven history of systems-oriented thinking, and decision-making considering stakeholder needs and risks.
  • Track record of strong cross-functional collaboration
  • Effective communications/presentation skills to all levels of the organization (both written and verbal)
  • Less than 10% Travel
