Sr. Hadoop Engineer

Boston Scientific Information Technology is looking for a Sr. Hadoop Engineer/Tech Lead to deliver strategic initiatives supporting Corporate Data & Analytics needs with a particular focus on platform optimization activities and processes. This individual should be highly motivated with excellent Cloudera Hadoop development, platform and execution skills.  The individual should enjoy working on an Agile team in a fast paced, high-visibility and high-impact environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop and support tenant specific batch or real-time data ingestion and transformation workflows on EDH (Enterprise Data Hub) Platform.
  • Under the direction of the architect, liaise with product teams to understand the overall objective of building the application, communicate best practices, perform code reviews, and revise guidelines/policies to protect the integrity of the platform and ensure high quality deliverables which are scalable and reusable, wherever possible.
  • Own both the development & enforcement of guidelines and best practices for solutions built on EDH using various modes of data movements such as file copy, pub-sub (like Kafka), ftp, sqoop, etc.
  • Performance tuning recommendations for underperforming tenant applications.
  • Build WBS (Work Breakdown Structure), tasks, and deliverables for the platform upgrade and managed services.
  • Appropriately communicate project status, escalate issues, manage timelines and action items.
  • Enhance, maintain and support the development of systems throughout the SDLC according to the IT methodology, department SOP’s, and team guidelines
  • Analyze existing system landscape and tools in an effort to identify areas of improvement, optimization, and retirement on the Hadoop platform.
  • Help build out the processes and operating rhythm of the value stream approach (Agile, product focused, DevOps).

 

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in MIS, Computer Science, or related field required
  • 5+ years of experience in Hadoop development (CCA Spark and Certification as Cloudera Hadoop Developer would be preferred)
  • Good understanding of design patterns and Hadoop Ecosystem (such as HDFS, YARN, MapReduce, HBase, Zookeeper, Pig, Impala, Hive SQL, Spark, Flume, Kafka, Kudu, Streamsets, etc.)
  • Hands on experience in StreamSets, MapReduce, Impala, Hive SQL, Spark, Flume, Kafka, Python, Scala, Sqoop, Oozie and bash scripting
  • Experience with software development tools (e.g. Eclipse, Git, JIRA) as well as version control tools (e.g. SVN, GitHub, CVS)
  • Well versed with Agile methodology
  • Exposure to NoSQL (like HBase, Cassandra) stores, RESTful webservices and cloud platforms would be an added advantage
  • Excellent debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Self-starter with strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
