About the role:

The candidate needs to be a self-motivated individual with leadership skills on Software functional management and people management. The candidate must have a strong Software Engineering background and possess functional management skills to manage a software engineering team for Class II and Class III medical device development. The candidate should have excellent people management skills and experience in developing software applications for medical devices. The candidate must be a team player to successfully collaborate and lead cross functional software design & development teams, verification and system evaluation teams and work with Quality, Marketing, Supply Chain and IP teams to delivery on Cost, Quality and Schedule. The candidate should excel in people development and mentoring functional leadership for the future.


Your Resonsibilities will include:

  • Work closely with Business Unit global R&D directors.
  • Manage a software development team comprised of software development and verification test engineers.
  • Drive Business Unit based project portfolio commitments including, project budget and timelines.
  • Provide Leadership for software engineers in the following areas:
    • Authoring of Software development plans
    • Requirements management, coding standards, configuration management, defect tracking process and build procedures
    • Development of Specifications, architectures, designs, schedules and unit and integration test plans, verification strategies related to software product development activities and product upgrades
    • Software risk assessment activities, Use / Design Failure Mode Effects and Analysis
    • Software Development using Agile methodology
    • Delivery of projects to scheduled commitments
  • Responsible for maintaining Project Metrics and status reports on Schedule, Cost and Quality.
  • Ready to travel and operate comfortably in a multinational demanding work environment.
  • Develop and manage project schedules and resource plans
  • Develop and lead strategies to achieve deliverables including Project Lifecycle Management.
  • Liaison with cross functional peers and team members
    • Marketing: work with marketing for requirement gathering and deliver commercial product through the PDP cycle as per business plan.
    • QA: implement Quality systems and process as per project Quality plan. Participate in quality audits.
    • IP: Liaison with IP team to develop and manage Portfolio IP estate
    • Regulatory Affairs: Participate in development of regulatory strategies and deliver product design to meet product claim requirements.
  • Leadership skills:
    • Represent project matrix at portfolio and internal sponsor meetings.
    • Liaison with internal stakeholders
    • Lead and / or manage cross functional teams.
    • Present regular updates on project status roadmap to senior global and regional management
  • People Management
    • Identify and recruit engineers.
    • Assign roles & responsibilities as per project plan
    • Facilitate career development including developing future leaders and people managers.
    • Undertake performance appraisals and provide ongoing developmental feedback to direct reports and team members.
    • Facilitate developmental plans with HR for individual direct reports.



What we're looking for in you :

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • 5+ years' experience in managing software teams and projects
  • Experience working with development and testing of web and mobile applications.
  • 5+ years' experience of developing and testing Object Oriented applications using Java and open source technologies.
  • Work experience in both US and India (preferred)
  • Experience in a regulated environment (for example; medical, aerospace, nuclear).
  • Knowledge of software architectures, design patterns, and software engineering best practices.
  • Experience using source control systems (AccuRev, Visual Studio Team Suite, Git, or similar), configuration management, requirements management, and issue tracking systems.
  • Experience using a continuous build and test environment.
  • Software development for class II/III medical devices which are compliant to IEC 62304:2006 development process is highly desirable.
  • Experience with security of distributed mobile devices and management of remote systems is desirable
  • Team / People Management skills
  • Skills and experience working with outsourcing vendors (preferred)
  • Proficient in project management tools like MS project.
  • Experienced in Process based work culture
