About the role: 
At Boston Scientific Neuromodulation, you join a team that is focused on improving the lives of our patients through technology and service.  We are a global leader in delivering solutions that treat Chronic Pain, Lumbar Spinal Stenosis, Parkinson's Disease, Dystonia, and Essential Tremor. 
 
As an NPD (New Product Development) PMO Group Manager, you will work on a team to manage, drive, and delivery core projects and programs for the global PAIN and BRAIN franchise portfolio. You will collaborate cross-functionally, cross-divisionally, and internationally to delivery on innovative technologies and commercial needs.  The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual with demonstrated leadership skills in project, process and/or people management and be able to execute with limited general supervision, and take on projects, as a working manager, where required. You will be responsible for a team of project managers that support project design and development execution plans across the product development life cycle, triple constraint management, leadership gate reviews,  strategic and annual operating planning, and the evolution of PMO tools and product development practices. Working with various cross-functional groups in R&D, Marketing, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Operations, Sustaining, Tech Com and Global Supply Chain are a must to be successful as a PMO leader.

Your responsibilities include: 

  • Project Management: Responsible for all projects assigned to the organizational unit.  Defines projects based on identified strategies and goals set by the business unit. Ability to manages projects of moderate to large scope including schedules, costs and resources. May lead or participate in cross-functional teams. Builds team ownership and commitment to project plans; Leads the team in appropriate decision making through strong judgment and the ability to analyze options and implications. Supports annual strategic and operating plan portfolio planning for franchise or cross-franchise needs.
  • Communications and Reviews: Responsible for team and cross-functional level communications; Will act as liaison between the team and the business; Participates in project design and phase reviews; defines and tracks key business unit metrics; Responsible for elevating critical business risks on projects to the business and/or functional leadership.  Ability to communicate fluently and concisely to senior leaders; Can translate complex engineering into easy to understand communication (written and verbal).
  • Relationship/People Management: Working with a team to foster team excellence and comradery. Provides direction and guidance to the team of people under their structure. Provides guidance to team members within the latitude of established company policies. Manages the activities of the group with responsibility for poeple managment and performance, including costs, methods, and staffing. Evaluates performance of and assists in career development planning for team members.
  • Product/Technology Management: Develops understanding of the Neuromodulation business and technology to help drive success in change management activities throughout the PLCP process; Identifies, communicates, and manages project risk.
  • Process Management:  Product Life Cycle Process (PLCP) system knowledge of transfer, mfg acceptance, sustaining, expansions, and end of life; Knowledge of quality system use for the creation and continued compliance of products; Actively reviews policy and practice improvements to drive functional excellence; Influences cross-functional systems effectiveness; Financial management – budget, forecast, and strategic plan input and preparation across multiple mfg. sites and the division.

 

  • Management Requirements
    • Lead a group of employees in the achievement of organizational goals. 
    • Lead projects, as a working manager, that support divisional portfolio needs.
    • Guide, coach, direct, and develop direct reports, and if applicable, drive those practices throughout the organization. 
    • Foster a diverse workplace that enables all participants to contribute to their full potential in pursuit of organizational objectives. 
    • Direct and control the activities and budget of one or more functional areas, divisions, product groups, projects/programs and/or operations.  
    • Support teams that are offsite or contractor based with internal cross-functional team members to meet key business goals. 
    • Develop new and modify existing PMO process and tools to support portfolio needs to improve the overall product development process.
    • Oversee franchise level projects.

 

What we’re looking for:
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering plus 7-9 years of related work experience (BS ME, EE, SW, BioEngineering)
  • Experience in managing significant, cross functional projects and/or initiatives critical to the business for technology development, new products and first in human delivery.
  • Experience driving cross-functional post market sustaining engineering projects that range from line extensions, global releases, inch-ups, design and process changes, standards remediation’s, VIPs, and EOL
  • Has managed projects that are new products, functional group project’s, mfg. transfers or sustaining projects end to end
  • Ability to develop MS project schedules for resource loading, and budgeting and critical path scenarios.
  • Knowledge and experience establishing and driving resource planning estimates for strategic planning and Annual Operating Plans
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing production practices and engineering documentation.
  • Working knowledge of electro-mechanical systems, familiar with firmware or software integration with systems integration, and digital applications.
  • Excellent communication with internal and offsite teams, manager, director and executive level engagements
  • People management experience with ability to coach and develop
  • Ability to travel globally to multiple manufacturing sites to oversee and drive business goals as required (~10%)

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS Degree, Engineering,  MBA
  • Qualified candidate should have 10+ years of professional experience with at least 5 years of relevant project management experience 
  • PMP Certification
  • Knowledge of DHF, DMR and Engineering Change process
  • Working knowledge of Medical device development using CFR 820.30, 13485 or 62304
  • Working knowledge on leading effective teams to meet critical business goals
  • Strong organizational, execution and communication skills will be required, as well as a demonstrated ability to lead and work together with a global cross-functional team.
  • Candidate must be comfortable in front of all levels of the organization as well as our external customers.
  • Product knowledge is understood from customer, commercial and engineering point of views.
  • Prior experience managing cross functional teams with systems or module integration (ie HW, SW, Systems, Applications)
  • Prior experience working in a new products development environment for the medical device industry
  • Has managed new products project teams or directly managed a team of 5+ employees
