Supplier Engineer II



About the role:

  • Perform all material qualification activities to support new product development and sustaining of Implantable Pulse Generator (IPG), Leads and Externals products.
  • Liaison between Suppliers and multi-site cross-functional teams to meet EU MDR requirements for labeling and packaging across the Neuromodulation product portfolio.


Your Responsibilities Include:


  • Identify suppliers for new product development efforts in conjunction with Global Sourcing guidelines
  • Act as team member for new product development cross-functional project teams and support supplier engineering deliverables
  • Develop and qualify components to support introduction of new components to production. This includes creating, modifying documentation associated with material/component qualification activities
  • Perform component qualification activities including tracking, evaluation study and formal first article qualification as required by working closely with the chosen supplier
  • Identify and lead alternate supplier component qualification activities for sustaining projects
  • Identify and lead value improvement programs involving qualification of second source suppliers
  • Work closely with suppliers to develop and modify various manufacturing processes to improve component quality and output
  • Evaluate the design and manufacturability of components to support ongoing production requirements
  • Interact with various vendors in resolving quality and manufacturing related issues
  • Eliminate/reduce defects and improve yields at suppliers as required. Help suppliers to perform root cause analysis and take corrective action to resolve failures
  • Ensure that new components qualified for production meet business, quality, output and cost goals and objectives
  • Support material discrepancy review and disposition activities (MRB)
  • Support quality and corrective/preventive actions initiatives (NCEP, CAPA) related to supplier engineering.



What We’re Looking For:


Required Qualifications:


  • BS, Engineering - Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing or related engineering discipline
  • Minimum 3 years’ direct engineering experience
  • Experience in typical manufacturing processes, tooling and equipment, injection molding
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams from product concept to release
  • Experience interfacing with R&D, Regulatory, Production and Suppliers
  • Proficient in MS Office Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Effective verbal, written presentation, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Willing and able to lift to 20 pounds



Preferred Qualifications:


  • MS, Engineering - Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing or related engineering discipline
  • Minimum 3 years’ manufacturing engineering, mechanical design and product development experience in medical device industry
  • Working knowledge of Lean, 6-Sigma, quality systems, GMP, GDP, ISO 13485, EU MDR and FDA QSR compliance guidelines for medical devices
  • Project management skills and experience creating and executing project plans
  • Fluent in statistical data analysis, statistical process control (SPC), design of experiments (DOE), design for manufacturability (DFM), failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA), Gage R&R, execute process capability studies and characterization
  • Familiar with material bonding and curing processes, cleaning systems, machining, stamping, extrusion, injection molding and automated assembly equipment
  • SAP, Windchill, Solid Works, Minitab, Visio and MS Project experience
