About the Role: 
Industrial engineers play an integral role at Boston Scientific by contributing to strategic objectives by driving sustainable improvements to systems within our Delivering Excellence global supply chain business model. They support the advancement of lean and continuous improvement by identifying and implementing innovative solutions that eliminate waste and optimize value for our customers.

 

Your Responsibilities Will Include: 

  • Continuously seeks opportunities to learn and grow their own development. Develops, documents, and shares best practices and successfully mentors leaders and individual contributors. Achieves objectives with limited mentorship. Works with customers spanning our global supply chain, including, new products, manufacturing, and support function groups. An ideal candidate would have advanced experience (5+ years) with the items listed below;
  • Establishing engineering (labor) standards for products, as well as projects to drive a 10% annual labor improvement. Perform time studies and data analysis to properly balance (Work Content Graph) and staff each line (Visual Staffing Plan). 
  • Understanding, leveraging, sustaining, and improving the following Lean concepts; Work Content Graph (line balancing), Standard Work, Standard WIP, Visual Staffing Plan, Variation Tracking, Equipment Capacity, 5S, 8 Wastes, Continuous Improvement System and Kaizen.
  • Demonstrating the fundamental lean mindset that 'we improve the work, because we respect people'. Solves manufacturing line, Business Unit or support function problems in manufacturing, development and office environments by applying DMAIC or PDCA. Selects lean principles, systems or tools for projects or tasks resulting in waste reduction, improved flow and added value for customer. Mentors and coaches individual contributors and supervisors around principles, systems and tools. 
  • Identifying the appropriate customers and decision makers during projects affecting new products, manufacturing, and support function groups. Achieves project success by adapting to changing requirements, timelines, and expectations. Seeks customer feedback, data, and information to make decisions.
  • Developing sustainable systems by applying DMAIC or PDCA and verifying effectiveness during Control or Check phase. Iterates system, process, or tool based on measures of success. Sustainable business systems, processes, and tools have clear ownership, instructions, training plans, alignment to our principles, built-in improvement mechanisms, and system health metrics. Intentionally connects business systems, processes, and tools to other existing systems, processes, and tools.
  • Solving problems impacting customers by applying DMAIC or PDCA.  Clearly defines and measures the problem regardless of the system or process. Adheres to the DMAIC or PDCA process, experiments, innovates, and relies on data and lean to guide decision making. 
  • Responsible for facilitating a minimum of 6 training courses and 4 Kaizen events, or meetings, with project customers annually. Develops, improves, and documents lean training content. Consistently plans and facilitates successful Kaizens by demonstrating clear and confident communication while engaging and adapting to the audience to meet desired outcomes. Teaches, mentors, and coaches a minimum of 5 individual contributors per year. 
  • Responsible for chooses the optimal form of communication with customers (email, meeting, etc.) depending on desired communication outcome. Develops and demonstrates clear communication plans to customers during projects. Consistently communicates a clear message during presentations to leadership or project customers.
  • Responsible for simultaneously managing tasks and 1-3 large scope projects by developing realistic timelines, adapting to customer requirements, and adjusting the project schedule. Develops a Gantt chart or Project Plan to anticipate critical path risks (resource conflicts, sequencing, etc.).
  • Responsible for developing trust and respect with project teams which can be leveraged during projects to strategically influence project direction, team alignment, and project momentum leading to strong Value Improvement Process (VIP) savings over $500K annually.
  • Responsible for demonstrating ideal behaviors that are consistent and supportive of our Inclusive Winning Culture - Pride, Team, Fun, Win. Supports and encourages others to participate in cultural initiatives. Develops an Inclusive Winning Culture during projects by creating a collaborative environment where all ideas are welcome, and we adhere to a process.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, or an Engineering field
  • 5+ years of experience as a full-time engineer
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of Lean Principles, Systems, and Tools
  • Proficient user of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point, etc.)
  • Experience moving or re-laying out a manufacturing line larger than 2,000 sq ft.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering
  • 5+ years-experience with medical device manufacturing 
  • 5+ years-experience applying Lean Principles, Systems, and Tools
  • Shingo Model Understanding and Application Experience 
  • Six Sigma Certification
  • Project Management Certification
  • Simulation Software Experience (Arena, Simulate, FlexSim, etc.)
  • Power BI/Tableau
