In Peripheral Intervention (PI) we treat vascular system blockages in areas such as the carotid and renal arteries and the lower extremities, treating, Peripheral Vascular Diseases, Pulmonary Embolisms as well as Interventional Oncology Treatments and Products.  Medical Conditions we provide solutions for include Carotid Artery Stenting, Embolic Protection Balloon Catheters, Vascular Protection, Iliac Solutions, Renal Solutions, Femoral Solutions and Oncology solutions. We have a robust product line and pipeline, and we will continue to make an investment in Peripheral Interventional treatments.

About the role:

We are seeking a talented and experienced Senior Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will lead early exploratory and technology development efforts, playing a crucial role in shaping the future of our product portfolio. The ideal candidate will have a passion for innovation, a strong background in biomedical engineering, and a track record of successfully bringing new technologies from concept to prototype.

The Senior Engineer develops new technology, products, materials, processes, or equipment with minimal supervision.  Independently, or as a member of a team, develops, directs, and executes plans for a major segment of complex projects.  Compiles and analyzes operational, test, and research data, in vitro and in vivo, to establish technical specifications for designing or modifying products, processes, and materials.

This position is hybrid role located in Maple Grove, MN with the expectation to be on-site for a minimum of 3 days per week. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead early-stage exploratory projects aimed at identifying and evaluating new technologies, materials, and design concepts.
  • Performs biomedical research and works cross functionally with clinical partners to identify unmet clinical needs. 
  • Consistently generates inventive and original solutions tailored to market demands and submits idea disclosures, anticipating the development of novel or enhanced products. 
  • Engages with Physicians/Cath Lab personnel to gather feedback on the concepts and performance of newly developed devices. 
  • Drives concepts through ideation, IP generation, design iteration, prototyping to establish proof of concept in bench or pre-clinical models 
  • Evaluates the feasibility and robustness of proposed engineering assessments, products, or equipment.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including R&D, product management, and manufacturing to drive technology development initiatives.
  • Drive innovation through creative problem-solving, critical thinking, and hands-on experimentation.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and competitive developments to inform technology strategy and roadmap. Identifying key technical risks, seeking out the best advice (internally and externally) regarding these risks and developing the required risk mitigation strategy.

 
Additional responsibilities:

  • Selects techniques to solve complex problems and make sound design recommendations.
  • Work with preclinical team members to identify in vitro and in vivo models and study designs evaluate product performance
  • Summarizes, analyzes, and draws conclusions from complex test results.
  • Coordinates, manages, and documents project goals and progress and recommends appropriate revisions.
  • Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products or equipment.
  • May train and/or provide work direction to technicians and entry-level engineers.
  • Demonstrates PDP/TDP system knowledge through delivery of high quality and high impact deliverables.

 

Minimal qualifications: 

  • Product development experience in medical device or a related industry aligned with below experience/education.
    • B.S. in engineering or related field and 5+ years
    • M.S - 3+ years
    • Ph.D. - 1+ years
  • Strong technical background in areas such as biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, material science, or chemical engineering. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think critically and analytically.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Proven track record of conducting early-stage exploratory projects from concept to prototype.
  • Demonstrated evidence of cross-functional collaboration skills with research and product development
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Passion for innovation and a desire to make a meaningful impact in healthcare.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Familiarity and/or desire to use AI tools in healthcare.
  • Biomedical Engineering background and/ or understanding of biological systems and clinical trials.
