Position Title: Vice President, Health Economics & Market Access (HEMA), EMEA
Location: Europe (EMEA region)
Reports to: Vice President, EMEA Medical Affairs and Market Access
Role Overview
As Vice President, HEMA for EMEA at Boston Scientific, you will set the strategic vision and drive execution of all health economics, outcomes research, pricing, reimbursement, and market access activities across Europe, Middle East, and Africa. You will represent Boston Scientific with key payers, governmental bodies, trade associations, and KOLs, ensuring our therapies achieve optimal patient access and demonstrate clear economic value. You will lead a multidisciplinary team of directors and managers, fostering collaboration with global functions and regional stakeholders to deliver seamless, fit-for-purpose market access strategies.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership
- Define & Align: Develop and refine the overarching HEMA strategy for the EMEA region, aligned with Boston Scientific’s global objectives.
- Investment Prioritization: Evaluate and prioritize investments in evidence generation, market access programs, and partnerships to maximize return and patient impact.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate and strengthen relationships with European and global payers, reimbursement authorities, government bodies, and trade associations (e.g., MedTech Europe, HTA, ISPOR).
- Representation: Serve as the primary HEMA spokesperson at high-level forums, advisory boards, and industry initiatives, championing Boston Scientific’s value propositions.
- Budget Oversight: Lead the annual planning process—designing the StatPlan and setting budgetary guidelines to ensure alignment with strategic priorities.
2. Performance Leadership
- Regional Planning: Oversee the development, consolidation, and execution of Divisional and country-specific HEMA plans, ensuring consistency while allowing for local healthcare system nuances.
- KPI Management: Establish and review quarterly and annual KPIs to monitor progress against strategic imperatives, driving continuous improvement.
- Cross-Country Best Practices: Facilitate knowledge-sharing of successful case studies, value dossiers, and economic models across the EMEA cluster.
- Priority Setting: Collaborate with Commercial, Marketing, Sales, and Global HS&P to sequence market access initiatives and optimize resource deployment.
3. Collaborative Leadership
- Global & Regional Alignment: Act as liaison between Global HEMA, Global regulatory, fRegional Senior Leadership Teams, and local functions to synchronize evidence generation and market access tactics.
- Internal Partnering: Engage with New Product Launch Teams, Medical Affairs, Clinical, Communications, and other internal partners to integrate health economics insights throughout the product lifecycle.
- External Networks: Build and maintain a pan-European network of key opinion leaders, working groups, and academic partners to inform and validate economic models and access strategies.
4. People Leadership
- Team Development: Define recruitment criteria, mentor senior leaders, and champion talent development within the HEMA organization.
- Coaching & Onboarding: Personally engage in talent acquisition and onboarding, ensuring new hires embody Boston Scientific’s values and HEMA competencies.
- Diversity & Inclusion: Promote an inclusive culture that values diverse perspectives and drives innovative approaches to market access challenges.
- Organizational Optimization: Continuously assess structure, skills, and processes to meet evolving healthcare trends and regional complexities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, MSc) in Health Economics, Pharmacoeconomics, Public Health, or related field; MBA preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum 15 years in market access, health economics, or outcomes research within the MedTech or pharmaceutical industry.
- Demonstrated leadership managing large, geographically dispersed teams.
- Proven track record influencing payer and regulatory decisions across multiple EMEA markets.
- Experience in trade association or governmental advisory roles.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong strategic thinker with excellent financial acumen.
- Exceptional stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
- Ability to translate complex economic data into compelling value propositions.
- Fluency in English; additional European languages an advantage.
