Logistics Specialist II

 

About the role:

Primary operational contact responsible for route planning, pickup schedules and chain of custody requirements for inbound and outbound domestic patient sample shipments.    Coordinates with carrier/couriers, service providers, audits freight bills, prepares and negotiates claims, and selects or recommends carrier/couriers to ensure efficient, timely, and least expensive movements of goods and patient sample material.  Conducts research on transportation methods, rates and routes for the Pathology and Endoscopy business.  Develops programs to audit and monitor carrier/courier rates and charges and evaluates past performance and cost of shipping routes.

 

Your responsibilities include:

  • Assists in negotiating, awarding, administering and reviewing service agreements with carrier/couriers, customs brokers and transportation suppliers with management input.
  • Monitors the carrier/couriers' on-time performance and quality of shipments by reviewing and validating the carrier/courier performance reports.  Works with the carrier/couriers to improve performance when the agreed upon timeliness and/or quality drops below established service goals.
  • Conducts analysis of alternate methods of transportation and programs, along with projected cost and service improvements.
  • Assists in developing long-term logistics strategies.  Responsible for analyzing current logistical capabilities and recommending future logistical strategies based on emerging business needs.
  • Provides traffic advice and routing guide assistance, and consults with BSC plants, DCs and suppliers to ensure efficiency of time and costs (i.e., recommending and selecting carrier/couriers).
  • Participates in negotiations with transportation and freight audit service suppliers to obtain the best service and price for contract for BSC.  
  • Audits freight vendor by conducting periodic reviews of vendors' service in order to ensure quality service and to resolve any problems (e.g., hub visit, delivery, packaging).
  • Performs analysis, identifies root cause, and recommends corrective action utilizing transportation carrier/courier and related information.
  • Expedites difficult shipping situations (e.g., dangerous goods, new product introductions, customs clearance, etc.) to ensure timely delivery.  Works with carrier/couriers, freight forwarders, and regulatory agencies to identify and resolve shipping issues.
  • Collects data through needs surveys and carrier/couriers' service history and analyzes it to identify efficiencies and inefficiencies to develop cost-reduction plans.
  • Provides training and direction as needed to the Traffic Assistant(s) in the preparation of domestic and exports and imports, freight claims, freight bill payment and audit process and carrier/courier pick up.

 

What we’re looking for in you:

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2-5 Years of related work experience, with hands on experience in transportation and logistics required

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • SAP and Salesforce knowledge
  • Basic knowledge of Reverse Logistics and returns services
  • Basic understanding of functional specialty and industry practices, techniques and standards or the ability to learn and comprehend the detailed regulations
  • Working knowledge and application of business concepts, procedures and practices
  • Ability to work under general supervision and corporate transportation governance
  • Receives limited supervision on standard issues, and detailed instructions on new assignments
  • Possess ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Experience working with national carriers, preferred
