SW Associate Test Manager – Opal Mapping System
The Opal Mapping System is a 3D mapping and navigation system and an effective diagnostic tool for cardiac electrophysiology (EP) procedures. It provides real-time visualization of intracardiac catheters and displays 3D cardiac maps in selected formats during minimally invasive procedures to assist the physician in identifying the origin of the arrhythmia within the heart chamber. As a physician probes the heart with a catheter, the system generates an accurate anatomical model of the chamber. High-performance rendering and algorithmic techniques are vital to creating a stunning view and providing the physician with instant feedback.
The Heredia Software R&D Team is a dynamic, fast-growing part of the Boston Scientific Electrophysiology group with a highly talented team developing and testing the leading-edge Opal Mapping System. We are looking for a SW Associate Test Manager with strong leadership and hands-on software testing experience to join our exciting and fast-paced software test team.
About This Role
The SW Associate Test Manager is a dual-function role that combines team leadership and hands-on technical execution. The person in this position manages resources, plans and coordinates testing activities, and simultaneously contributes directly as a test engineer. This includes executing test cases, developing new ones, performing manual or automated testing, and preparing validation documentation and reports. The associate manager collaborates closely with R&D, development, and product management teams to ensure test quality, efficiency, and compliance across the product lifecycle.
This role supports and leads portions of the software testing effort for the Opal Mapping System, coordinating across teams to ensure testing quality, compliance, and timely delivery of results. The associate manager helps plan and oversee test execution activities, guides engineers in test strategy and methodology, and contributes directly to testing through either manual or automated approaches.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a small team of software test engineers while actively contributing as an individual contributor.
- Execute and develop manual or automated test cases across user interface, algorithmic, and back-end components.
- Contribute to the creation, review, and maintenance of test protocols, validation documentation, and test reports.
- Participate directly in manual or automated testing activities using Python or C++-based automation frameworks and standard tools (Jira, Jama, Jenkins, Squish, Linux).
- Define test objectives and scope in collaboration with development and product teams to ensure product quality and compliance with regulatory and company standards.
- Support continuous improvement in testing processes and best practices within the Electrophysiology R&D organization.
- Provide technical guidance and hands-on support for defect analysis, issue reproduction, and troubleshooting.
- Communicate clearly with stakeholders to report testing progress, issues, and recommendations.
- Assist with test planning, scheduling, and coordination of resources to meet project milestones.
- Support compliance with FDA, ISO, and internal design control requirements through proper documentation and execution discipline.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree and 5–8 years of experience as a software test engineer or related role, or 3–5 years with a master’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent.
- 1–3 years of experience in a leadership, coordination, or team lead capacity.
- Strong hands-on experience in manual or automated testing of complex software systems.
- Proficiency in software test methodologies, documentation practices, and defect tracking.
- Experience with test automation tools and scripting (Python or C++).
- Solid communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to balance leadership responsibilities with direct technical execution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the medical device or regulated industry.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development environments.
- Working knowledge of Linux/Unix testing environments.
- Experience generating and maintaining validation documentation and reports.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to software verification.
- Commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
