About the role:

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, development, verification, and maintenance of software solutions that support implantable medical devices and related healthcare technologies within Boston Scientific Neuromodulation. You will contribute to innovative, high-quality products that improve patient outcomes while solving complex technical challenges across the software development lifecycle. You will provide technical guidance on architecture, engineering practices, and strategic technology initiatives. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will help deliver reliable and scalable solutions for patients and healthcare professionals.

 

Work Mode:

This role follows a hybrid work model. Employees are expected to work from the Global Hub, American Free Zone, Costa Rica office at least three days per week, with the remaining days worked remotely.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Design, develop, verify, and maintain software solutions for implantable neural stimulation systems and related medical technologies.
  • Develop desktop applications using C#, .NET, WPF, XAML, MVVM, Entity Framework, and service-oriented architectures.
  • Design and develop scalable web applications and services using technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, Vue.js, REST APIs, AWS, microservices, and serverless architectures.
  • Lead software development activities throughout the product lifecycle, including requirements analysis, architecture, design, implementation, testing, code reviews, and deployment.
  • Ensure software quality through comprehensive unit, integration, and system testing practices.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, design records, change requests, and development artifacts in accordance with established procedures and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze system requirements, resolve technical challenges, and deliver architecturally sound engineering solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement of software development processes, engineering standards, tools, methodologies, and workflows.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship while promoting collaborative and pragmatic engineering decision-making.
  • Contribute to software architecture and technology strategies that support current and future product needs.

 

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience, including strong proficiency in C# and .NET technologies.
  • Proven experience developing Windows desktop applications using WPF, XAML, and MVVM design patterns.
  • Hands-on experience building web applications using Java, Spring Boot, Vue.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, or comparable web technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of object-oriented design principles, software architecture patterns, and modern software engineering practices.
  • Experience developing and executing unit and integration testing strategies.
  • Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle, Agile methodologies, and relational and non-relational databases, including SQL and NoSQL technologies.

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in regulated industries, preferably medical devices, healthcare, or another highly regulated environment.
  • Familiarity with medical device standards and regulations, including IEC 62304, ISO 13485, and 21 CFR Part 820.
  • Experience developing cloud-native solutions using AWS and/or Microsoft Azure, including microservices and serverless architectures.
  • Experience with technologies such as Node.js, ASP.NET, WCF, and RESTful services.
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies, including Kubernetes, Amazon ECS, and Amazon EKS.
  • Experience using software development and collaboration tools such as Git, Jira, Code Collaborator, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership, strong written and verbal communication skills in English, and the ability to independently solve complex problems.
