About the Role:

Boston Scientific Cardiac Diagnostics is seeking an AI-Assisted Software Development Intern to join our Software Development team. This internship is for a student who enjoys building software and already has hands-on experience using AI coding agents such as OpenAI Codex and Claude Code to complete meaningful development work.

You will work alongside software engineers, architects, AI/ML engineers, product teams, and other technical partners. A central focus of the internship is learning how to direct AI agents effectively: translating an engineering objective into clear instructions, supplying the right repository and product context, planning multi-step work, reviewing agent output, and iterating until the result meets defined requirements.

This is not a prompt-only role. You will be expected to understand the code you submit, validate AI-generated changes, and use sound software engineering judgment. You will apply AI as an engineering partner to explore codebases, implement features, automate repetitive work, create and run tests, investigate defects, refactor applications, and improve developer workflows in a real-world healthcare technology environment.

Your Responsibilities:

• Use OpenAI Codex, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and similar tools to support day-to-day software development.
• Direct coding agents through multi-step assignments by defining the objective, constraints, acceptance criteria, available tools, and expected deliverables.
• Work with engineers to identify opportunities where AI-assisted development can improve productivity, quality, and deliverables time.
• Break ambiguous or complex problems into smaller tasks, guide the agent through implementation, and adjust the approach when results do not meet expectations.
• Use agents to navigate unfamiliar codebases, implement features, investigate defects, refactor code, generate documentation, and automate repetitive engineering work.
• Review AI-generated code for correctness, maintainability, security, performance, testability, and alignment with team standards.
• Develop automated unit, integration, or system tests that demonstrate the requested behavior and protect against regression.
• Document successful prompts, patterns, guardrails, and workflows so they can be reused by other engineers.
• Measure and communicate outcomes such as time saved, cycle-time improvement, code quality, test coverage, and reduction of repetitive work.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, sprint planning, demonstrations, and other Agile development activities.

Required Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Computer Engineering
• Must graduate between Fall 2027 and Spring 2028

• Must be able to commit to one of the following full internship program periods: May 17th – August 6th OR May 24th – August 13th

• Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization

• Must have reliable transportation to and from the Arden Hills, MN Boston Scientific Corporate location
• Hands-on software development experience through coursework, personal projects, research, hackathons, employment, or a previous internship.
• Hands-on experience using OpenAI Codex, Claude Code, or a comparable agentic coding tool to complete a software task beyond simple code completion.
• Ability to explain how you prompted or directed an AI agent, what context and constraints you provided, how you evaluated its output, and how you corrected unsuccessful results.
• Understanding software engineering fundamentals including version control, debugging, APIs, data structures, testing, and object-oriented or modular design.
• Familiarity with Git, Azure or similar source-control platforms.
• Ability to read AI-generated code critically, troubleshoot technical problems, and verify that a solution satisfies its requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

 A project or portfolio example that demonstrates agent-driven development from problem definition through tested implementation.

• Experience creating repository-level instructions, reusable prompt templates, tool configurations, or automated agent workflows.
• Knowledge of programming languages such as C#, Python, Java, JavaScript.
• Familiarity with REST APIs, microservices, SQL or NoSQL databases, cloud platforms, or cloud-native application development.
• Exposure to healthcare technology, medical devices, digital health, ECG data, cardiac monitoring, or another regulated industry.
• Clear written and verbal communication, curiosity, and a willingness to learn in a collaborative engineering environment.

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
