About the role: 

 

Join the Materials Management team at Boston Scientific in Arden Hills, MN as a Buyer in our Capital Equipment Purchasing department! Boston Scientific is a medical device manufacturer delivering millions of medical solutions annually across the globe. Arden Hills produces both finished goods and sub-assemblies assisting the plant network, providing many unique challenges for Materials Management. You will have the opportunity to be part of a fast-pasted global team. Materials Management includes production planning, direct purchasing, and material handling, which all interact frequently with production. In this role you will perform raw material purchases for the company in a timely and efficient manner to ensure proper functioning of the organization and satisfy our clients´ product requirements through efficient control and programming of company resources.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Perform all raw materials purchasing procedures.
  • Contact local and international providers for the supply of merchandise.
  • Maintain good relations with providers of raw materials.
  • Assess supplier performance periodically.
  • Maintain the cost-quality relation, pursuing the maximum savings for the company.
  • Satisfy established raw material inventory levels.
  • Execute the complete raw material purchase cycle, from definition of the requirement to receiving the merchandise.
  • Generate continuous improvement projects for processes related to raw material purchases.
  • Materials Administration: Generate, adjust and expedite purchase orders based on MRP (material requirements planning) along with pertinent information being used to run the business, i.e. schedule adherence, SI&OP, etc.; Generate buy action based on authorized spending amount; Collaborate with the Planning Team to maintain optimal inventory levels and find the proper priorities for material support; Track and monitor purchase orders, keeping informed of any problems/delays and advertise any impacts/constraints to the core team.
  • Supplier Management: Monitor and drive quality and delivery performance to the supplier and Global Sourcing Team; Responsible for resolving supplier-related problems (work closely with vendors to assure a positive and professional relationship always establishing and maintaining open lines of communication); Control assets at suppliers, disposing of obsolete assets and monitoring the age of others. 
  • Total Quality: Review and approve all raw material document change orders; Maintain accurate purchasing master data, AVL, info record, etc.; Interface with Engineering, Manufacturing, Planning and Quality to ensure timely throughput and proper prioritization of materials received.
  • Inventory Management: Manage low-to-moderate complexity commodities and expense items; Formulate purchasing decisions to achieve 100% internal customer service, targeted inventory safety stock and least total cost material procurement; Identify expired, excess and obsolete materials and disposition the material appropriately.
  • Planning Management: Analyze and inform supply chain performance and diagnose key improvement areas (e.g., forecast accuracy, supply variability, Inventory DIOH, service level, backorder, EE&O etc.). Support the monthly Sales, Inventory and Operations Planning (SI&OP) processes to ensure uniform adoption across the divisional supply chain planning groups. Support process adherence and master data accuracy for demand planning, replenishment and inventory planning and optimization within the scope of SI&OP leveraging the Kinaxis – Rapid Response solution, a recognized leader in supply chain planning software.

 

 

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering or Related Field -- experience in the supply chain field or medical device industry may be considered in lieu of degree
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar position or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Experience working in Microsoft 365 Suite
     

Preferred qualifications:

  • Desired knowledge: SAP, APICS Certification, Inventory, Microsoft Office
  • Prior experience in data analytics, including proficiency in data manipulation, statistical analysis, and visualization using tools such as SQL, Python, R, Power Bi, Tableau
  • English Level desired: B2+: (80% - 89%)
  • Medical Device experience
  • Experience with SAP/Rapid Response (or comparable ERP) system
  • Internship experience in purchasing, supply chain, inventory management or planning, preferably in a manufacturing environment 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization as well as with external vendors

The anticipated compensation listed above and the value of core and optional employee benefits offered by Boston Scientific (BSC) – see www.bscbenefitsconnect.com--will vary based on actual location of the position and other pertinent factors considered in determining actual compensation for the role. Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

 

Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).

 

Compensation for exempt, non-sales roles may also include variable compensation, i.e., annual bonus target and long-term incentives (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
