Cardiac Rhythm Management and Diagnostics (CRMDx) is a key business within Boston Scientific's Rhythm Solutions portfolio, advancing technologies that support the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac rhythm disorders. The portfolio includes pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators, implantable cardiac monitors and ambulatory cardiac monitoring services through Cardiac Diagnostics, Inc. (CDx).
The Director of Health Economics and Market Access (HEMA) will lead a team of Minnesota-based and remote market access and reimbursement professionals responsible for developing and executing global HEMA strategies that support product adoption, evidence generation and commercial success across the CRMDx portfolio. This leader will partner closely with divisional leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to assess reimbursement and market access opportunities, develop value-based strategies and ensure alignment across commercial, clinical, regulatory, R&D and health economics functions.
As a member of the AFS-CRMDx HEMA Leadership Team and CRMDx extended leadership team, this individual will help shape divisional strategy, support policy and compliance activities for CDx, and provide leadership in market access, reimbursement, health economics and value communication. The role also partners with regional teams to ensure global market access strategies address the needs of EMEA and APAC markets and support successful execution across geographies.
This is a hybrid or onsite position with candidates preferably residing in the Minneapolis- Saint Paul Area (may consider other locations if near one of our US Boston Scientific hub offices).
Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead, develop and mentor a team of Health Economics and Market Access (HEMA) professionals, fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture while supporting individual growth and development.
- Serve as a key member of the CRMDx extended leadership team and the AFS-CRMDx HEMA Leadership Team, contributing to divisional strategy and ensuring alignment of HEMA priorities with business objectives.
- Develop and execute comprehensive global HEMA strategies for new and existing products, including coverage, coding, payment, health economics and value communication initiatives that support product adoption and commercial success.
- Assess market access and reimbursement opportunities, risks and evidence needs throughout the product lifecycle, partnering closely with clinical, marketing, R&D, regulatory, business development, legal and commercial stakeholders.
- Collaborate with divisional and cross-divisional HEMA leaders to establish strategic priorities, share best practices and drive achievement of functional and business objectives across the Rhythm Solutions portfolio.
- Partner with regional HEMA teams to ensure global strategies incorporate the needs of EMEA and APAC markets, provide strategic guidance as needed and maintain visibility into regional execution activities and priorities.
- Provide reimbursement policy, market access and compliance guidance for Cardiac Diagnostics, Inc. (CDx), developing expertise in the ambulatory cardiac monitoring and Independent Diagnostic Testing Facility (IDTF) environment to support business objectives.
- Align field HEMA activities with divisional strategies and priorities, partnering closely with Field HEMA and sales leadership to support product launches, customer engagement and execution of market access initiatives.
- Collaborate with Field HEMA and commercial leaders to identify opportunities to differentiate Boston Scientific through market access strategies, economic evidence generation and customer-focused value solutions.
- Define and prioritize the development of reimbursement resources, economic evidence, value messaging and financial tools that support customer decision-making and demonstrate the clinical and economic value of Boston Scientific technologies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including health care providers, administrators, professional societies and industry organizations, to advance market access objectives and support adoption of CRMDx technologies.
- Ensure all market access, reimbursement, health economics and value communication activities are aligned with applicable legal, regulatory and compliance requirements, as well as Boston Scientific policies and HEMA standard operating procedures.
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required; degree in health economics, public health, health services research, health care administration or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years' experience in the medical device industry or other relevant health care market sectors.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience leading Health Economics and Market Access (HEMA) teams, including development of global HEMA strategies, economic evidence, value messaging and market access initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing global HEMA assessments, economic analyses and market access strategies while leveraging internal and external resources.
- Deep knowledge of U.S. health care systems, including health policy, physician and facility reimbursement methodologies, Medicare and commercial payer environments, coding systems, claims data and compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated expertise in reimbursement, market access, health economics and value communication across multiple product portfolios.
- Demonstrated experience translating complex market access, reimbursement and compliance requirements into actionable strategies for diverse stakeholder groups.
- Experience partnering with cross-functional teams, regional HEMA teams, field-based market access organizations and commercial leadership to develop and execute market access and commercialization strategies.
- Experience developing economic value tools, financial calculators and reimbursement resources that support adoption of medical technologies.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint.
Preferred qualifications:
- Advanced degree such as a JD, MBA, MPH or MHA with concentration in health policy, health economics, health care administration, health services research or a related field.
- Experience with cardiac rhythm management, ambulatory cardiac monitoring services and associated medical devices.
- Experience developing global HEMA strategies and supporting regional execution from the United States.
- Professional coding certification (AAPC or equivalent).
- Experience with independent diagnostic testing facilities (IDTFs), including reimbursement models and operational structures.
- Demonstrated success leading teams through organizational change and growth within complex, matrixed organizations.
- Experience influencing senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders without direct reporting authority.
- Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to effectively engage stakeholders across multiple organizational levels.
