About the role:
The Health Economics and Market Access (HEMA) Director, for the Global Corporate HEMA team develops and directs the strategy and methods across all BSC businesses to optimize reimbursement with government payers, including Medicare, and accelerate BSC's reputation as a global leader in health care reimbursement. The HEMA Director will advance key BSC reimbursement objectives with government, trade, and other reimbursement stakeholder groups.
Work Mode:
This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring employees to be in a local Boston Scientific office at least three days per week.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government payers, including the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), to provide access and ensure favorable coverage and payment for all BSC products and procedures.
- Predict and help avoid negative government policies that would reduce coverage, payment, and volume and/or increase price pressures.
- Ensure BSC voice/perspective influences priorities and policy positions in key trade and external health policy organizations.
- Design real-world data (RWD) analyses to support favorable coverage and reimbursement in coordination with Corporate Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) team.
- Coordinate internal alignment on key policy and reimbursement priorities and risks and execute action plans to address.
- Build HEMA community of practice by sharing best practices and educating HEMA and commercial teams on Medicare and other reimbursement changes relevant to the business.
- Monitor policy developments that impact the reimbursement of BSC products and communicate to HEMA team and senior leaders as appropriate.
- Direct and oversee staff (Corporate, Division HEMA, Government Affairs, trade associations, and KOLs) as necessary to implement the above tasks.
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of healthcare reimbursement experience, including direct experience creating and executing Medicare strategies for medical products.
- Strong knowledge of Medicare coverage and payment systems and understanding of Agency structure and decision-making processes.
- Demonstrated ability to drive decisions in trade associations or similar membership organizations.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, particularly communicating complex policy and reimbursement information in business relevant language.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to lead through influence.
- Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision.
Preferred qualifications:
- People management experience in the reimbursement/market access field.
- Experience at CMS.
- Experience in the medical device industry.
- An advanced degree such as an MBA, MPH or MHA in health policy, health economics, healthcare administration, health services research, or similar discipline.

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
