About this role:
The Arden Hills Analytical Lab (AHAL) has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Laboratory Technician IV. This position supports troubleshooting and investigational product analysis in addition to product acceptance testing and material batch release activities. This role conducts a variety of mechanical and material analyses including tensile, compression and elongation testing, microhardness testing, physical destructive analysis via mechanical cross section and microscopy inspections/ analysis. The position will also encompass process ownership of routine Quality Assurance testing and Equipment Control process ownership within the Analytical Lab. Additionally, this position coordinates lab related activities with internal customers and external service vendors, and ensures procedures are developed, implemented, and maintained to meet quality system requirements. The ideal candidate will also participate in site level Winning Culture initiatives and department level strategic objectives to foster a culture of continuous improvement.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Technical communication with internal customers and external vendors. This includes partnering with internal customers to understand product history and develop analysis plans, maintaining regular touch points with customers regarding analysis progress and findings, and compiling written reports summarizing results. 
  • Developing custom test procedures and fixtures to characterize mechanical properties of various materials, components, and assemblies.
  • Provides specialized guidance on processes and procedures to more junior team members, reprioritizing and allocating work to others to address customer priorities and educating internal customers on testing parameters and ASTM methodology.
  • Uses knowledge of how the team contributes to achieving its objectives and how related teams coordinate their efforts and resources to achieve shared and individual objectives.
  • Experience or familiarity with some of the following laboratory methods: 
    • Mechanical testing (tensile/compression/elongation/torsion) and ASTM Methodology.
    • Material characterization (durometer/microhardness testing, and microscopy analysis).
    • Destructive physical analysis which includes dye penetration testing, mechanical cross section (griding and polishing epoxy mounted samples, weld penetration analysis, acid etching for microstructure analysis, etc.).
  • Perform routing laboratory testing in accordance with FDA and other regulatory requirements, and internally established procedures including material batch release testing, product quality testing against design specification, equipment verifications, following procedures relating to nonconforming material, etc. 
  • Capable of working from schematics, engineering drawings, and written or verbal instructions.
  • Competent at maintaining good documentation practices when recording laboratory techniques, equipment parameter settings, and data in lab notebooks, test reports, and other organized means. 
  • Follow well-established test procedures, specifications and/or written instructions in addition to documentation and work instruction development and improvement 
  • Conduct periodic equipment maintenance tasks on Instron testers including load cell verification, program maintenance, data backup, basic troubleshooting when the need arises, and coordinating with equipment service reps for preventative maintenance and advanced troubleshooting. 

 

Required qualifications:
⦁    6+ years of experience analyzing components and assemblies in a lab setting.
⦁    A passion for continuous learning and an ability to work with a diverse team and contributes to an inclusive work environment.
⦁    Strong verbal and written communication skills, both technical and conversational.
⦁    A demonstrated focus on continuous improvement and ability to drive results.
⦁    Excellent task management and problem-solving skills for working in a fast-paced lab environment on multiple time sensitive projects.
⦁    AA degree or an equivalent combination of education/work experience. 


Preferred qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical testing with Instron or similar equipment
  • Experience working in a laboratory with GMP controls.
  • Exemplifies high performance expectations, proactively influences the organization in positive directions, and inspires engagement and commitment from others to achievement of common goals.
  • Working knowledge of QS requirements for regulated industries
  • Experience working in the customer service setting will be a plus
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills
