Lean Specialist I

 

About the Role

“Lean specialists are responsible for ensuring manufacturing lines operate in the most efficient manner possible.  This role requires a person who has a high attention-to-detail and is able to solve problems and complete tasks with minimal direction.  Lean specialists must be personable and develop relationships with the production personnel on the lines they support in order to document best practices and superior production techniques that can boost quality and decrease manufacturing time.  Lean specialists are also required to place orders for necessary line equipment, perform basic installation of line aides (monitors, adjustable shelves, etc.), monitor and track Continuous Improvement (CI) ideas, track and continuously update Standard Work tools and assessments, and track and improve the line’s REBAR scores.  Lean specialists report directly to the Production Supervisor, and are mentored by the area Industrial Engineer.  A Lean Specialist I must develop their understanding of lean principles through courses offered by the company and must present lean improvements twice annually at our Lean Sharing Forum.  Basic principles of lean that Lean Specialist I’s must understand are 5S, Work Content Graphs, Takt Time, and participating & leading Kaizen events.”

 

 

Your Responsibilities Include

 

  • Assisting in the analyzing, designing, and implementation of manufacturing and business process improvement, resulting in increase capacity, reduce lead-time, reduction in the work-in-process, improve fill-rates, and improve process flow and efficiency.
  • Ability to build a wide range of complex prototype parts for various types of products with little engineering direction and little to no written instruction.
  • Must be able to develop methods for assembling porotype devices, includes generating fixturing ideas and manual methods of assembly.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering on developing fixtures and build process; iterate fixture and process design.
  • Good understanding of excel to create data collection forms and record data efficiently and correctly; strong attention to detail.
  • Assist in writing MI’s and documenting build processes.
  • Assisting on the line to train builders and troubleshoot issues.
  • Create strong relationships with internal and external customers to ensure project success.
  • Participates in multiple facets groups across the organization including manufacturing, design, supplier development, and documentation.
  • Make recommendations to design teams, which drive higher yielding, lower cost, more manufacturable products.

 

 

 

What We’re Looking For

Basic Qualifications:

 

  • Read and write English in order to complete paperwork and understand written procedures, specifications, GMP’s and quality requirements.
  • Good communications skills.
  • Ability to concentrate for extended periods of time and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Requires manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical functions including addition, subtraction, decimals and fractions when performing a variety of measurements and assembly operations.
  • Work to continuously improve product quality and process flow.
  • Must be adaptable to changing procedures; ability to learn new procedures due to changing products and technology. May be asked to cross train on a variety of department operations.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • High School Diploma  or equivalent
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated product building and process knowledge
  • Demonstrated understanding and ability to maintain lean systems
  • No corrective actions within 12 months
  • Must be in current role for 6 months
  • Must have good attendance record

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with work content graphs, time  studies , and creating process flow
  • Associates Degree  or equivalent experience in related discipline preferred
