 R&D Systems Engineer II 

Boston Scientific is seeking a highly motivated Engineer with some experience with electromechanical systems. 

This role is within the sustaining  research and development organization, where the candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team of mechanical, electronics software engineers, and manufacturing engineering to support our surgical laser business.

Experience with Electronic Medical Equipment (EME), particularly with cooling systems, and IEC 60601 is preferred.

Our ideal candidate will be able to approach challenges with a high-level viewpoint of the product including  interactions with lower level sub-systems.



  • Designs and coordinates system and electromechanical engineering tests and experiments.

  • Works independently to plan and schedule own activities necessary to meet timelines.

  • Performs troubleshooting on systems as related to design, interactions with other electromechanical systems, materials, or process.

  • Leads or participates in test method development and validation.

  • Summarizes, analyzes, and draws conclusions from test results.

  • Prepares standard reports/documentation to communicate results to technical community.

  • Responsible for engineering documentation.

  • May train and/or provide work direction to technicians.

  • Works cooperatively with outside capital vendors, quality, regulatory, clinical, and marketing to ensure project success.

  • Demonstrates PDP system knowledge through delivery of high quality deliverables.

What we’re looking for:

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Electrical or Systems Engineering preferred

  • 4+ years of engineering experience with medical devices

  • Experience with troubleshooting with medical electrical systems

  • Self-Starter with the ability to work independently to plan, schedule and execute activities necessary to meet project timelines.

  • Strong communication skills (verbal & written)

  • Hands-on approach to problem solving

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Electronic Medical Equipment (EME), particularly with cooling systems

  • IEC 60601 and EMC requirements 

  • Medical Device industry experience in design controls with a focus on user needs, intended use, system requirements, system design and traceability.

  • Familiar with systems verification/validation
