About the Role:
Researches, develops, evaluates, and improves materials, polymers, chemicals, processes, equipment, and tooling by utilizing knowledge of materials, engineering, chemistry and physics. Applies engineering knowledge to product design, materials, parts, fabrication processes, and quality standards, to create superior products, and ensures that developed processes consistently perform to established standards.
Your Responsibilities will Include:
- Fully participates in and successfully contributes to project teams typically including the following activities: packaging/product design and development, test of materials, preparation of specifications, process capability studies, report preparation, and process/test documentation.
- Works independently to plan and schedule own activities necessary to meet timelines.
- Designs and coordinates standard engineering tests and experiments for new product development and existing design improvements.
- Designs, procures, and fabricates tooling and fixtures.
- Performs troubleshooting on new packages/products/process problems as related to design, material, or process.
- Summarizes, analyzes, and draws conclusions from test results.
- Generate packaging-related documentation including specifications, test plans and reports, and other documents.
- Invents/ creates concepts and designs for new products/processes and submits idea disclosures.
- Work cooperatively with various BSC departments, divisions, and suppliers, to ensure an improved, practical, and consistent approach to packaging.
- Demonstrates Sustaining system knowledge through delivery of high-quality deliverables.
- Keep abreast of new technologies and advances in the medical device packaging industry.
- As applicable, train and/or supervise technicians and/or interns.
Required Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree in packaging engineering, technology, or related discipline with 2-4 years of relevant experience
- Intermediate knowledge related to paperboard, corrugated, flexible packaging films, Tyvek, thermoformed trays, injection molded parts, and packaging equipment.
- Familiarity with ASTM / ISTA package testing requirements
- Packaging process and equipment qualification experience
- Understanding of quality system controls (e.g. user needs, design inputs/outputs, verification/validation, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 years+ of R&D medical device industry experience
- Experience with manufacturing and/or distribution
- Ability to solve complex problems with root cause analysis, including designing and executing experimental plans and using statistical methodologies to drive data-based decisions
- Strong interpersonal skills: ability to build relationships and collaborate with internal and external teams
- Organized and results-oriented; ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize competing tasks
- Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate with individuals on all levels
- Ability to work independently to plan, schedule, and execute activities necessary to meet project timelines
- Critical-thinking and problem-solving skills are required

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs.
