The Principal Scientific Affairs Specialist strategically partners with physician key opinion leaders (KOLs) in Atrial Fibrillation Solutions (AFS) to develop and disseminate clinical and scientific evidence supporting Boston Scientific’s electrophysiology (EP) and left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) technologies. This individual will lead and support strategic scientific initiatives, including podium presentations, scientific symposia, evidence-generation activities, real-world evidence and investigator-sponsored research (ISR) that advance Boston Scientific’s high-growth adjacencies and key product portfolios.

The role serves as a critical scientific liaison between external physician stakeholders and internal cross-functional partners, including Field Scientific Affairs, Clinical, Research and Development (R&D), Medical Education, Health Economics and Market Access (HEMA), and Marketing. Through these partnerships, the Global Scientific Affairs Specialist will help shape evidence-generation strategies, support commercialization efforts and ensure scientific rigor across educational and clinical engagements.

 

Work model, sponsorship, relocation:

At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows a hybrid work model requiring employees to be in our local office at least three days per week. This position may be based in Arden Hills, Minnesota, or Marlborough, Massachusetts. Boston Scientific will not offer sponsorship or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position at this time. Relocation assistance is not available for this position at this time.

 

 

Your responsibilities will include:

Scientific leadership and evidence generation

  • Develop and maintain deep clinical and technical expertise in EP and LAAC technologies, including clinical practice guidelines, scientific literature and publications, key clinical trials, and competitive and alternative therapies.
  • Build and maintain a strategically focused understanding of Boston Scientific’s data assets, including bench, preclinical, clinical, post-market and real-world evidence.
  • Support the development and dissemination of clinical and scientific evidence that reinforces the value of Boston Scientific technologies and therapies.
  • Develop and execute evidence-generation strategies, including sponsored research, ISR and real-world evidence, in partnership with Field Scientific Affairs, Clinical, R&D, Medical Education, HEMA and Marketing.
  • Translate voice-of-customer insights and market dynamics into actionable organizational strategies.
  • Provide strategic input on evidence gaps, study design, publication opportunities and evolving clinical needs.

Key opinion leader engagement

  • Identify, develop and maintain strong scientific relationships with strategically targeted physician KOLs.
  • Serve as a trusted scientific liaison between KOLs and internal stakeholders.
  • Gather and translate physician insights to inform clinical, scientific and commercial strategies.
  • Solicit and incorporate KOL feedback to strengthen scientific narratives and educational content supporting Boston Scientific technologies.
  • Support KOLs with scientific content development for educational programs, congress presentations, publications, advisory boards and other scientific forums.

Scientific communications and symposia

  • Create and support podium presentation opportunities that disseminate key scientific evidence supporting EP and LAAC technologies.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify, evaluate and select scientific meetings and symposium opportunities.
  • Partner with faculty and KOLs to develop symposium objectives, scientific content, educational messaging and faculty presentations.
  • Develop scientific speaker resources and educational materials for use by physician presenters and internal teams.
  • Ensure clinical and scientific messaging remains accurate, evidence-based and aligned with franchise objectives.

Cross-functional collaboration

  • Establish strong collaborative partnerships with Field Scientific Affairs, Clinical, R&D, Medical Education, HEMA and Marketing.
  • Support alignment of scientific, clinical and commercial messaging across functions and demonstrate interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Contribute scientific expertise to product strategy, evidence planning and educational initiatives.
  • Train and educate commercial teams on key scientific publications, clinical trial outcomes and emerging data releases.

External engagement and industry awareness

  • Attend and represent Boston Scientific at scientific congresses, educational programs and relevant professional society meetings.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging scientific evidence, evolving treatment paradigms and competitive technologies.
  • Monitor changes in clinical practice and identify opportunities to strengthen Boston Scientific’s scientific leadership position.

 

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, biomedical sciences, engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in scientific affairs, clinical research, field clinical support, product development, engineering, R&D, medical affairs, medical education, marketing or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience working within an FDA-regulated medical device, biotechnology, pharmaceutical or health care environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport and credibility with physicians, researchers and clinical leaders.
  • Demonstrated understanding of clinical trial design, scientific communications and publication strategy.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally approximately 15%-25% of the time to attend scientific meetings, conferences and physician engagements.

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Advanced degree, such as a Ph.D., Pharm.D., M.D., M.S. or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in scientific affairs or medical affairs.
  • Preferred experience in atrial fibrillation therapy, electrophysiology and/or LAAC technologies.
  • Preferred experience supporting cardiovascular, structural heart or electrophysiology medical devices.
  • Experience in academic research, clinical publications or evidence-generation programs.
  • Experience participating in or organizing scientific symposia, advisory boards and educational programs.
  • Demonstrated project leadership experience, including managing cross-functional teams, timelines and strategic initiatives using formal project management methodologies.

The anticipated compensation listed above and the value of core and optional employee benefits offered by Boston Scientific (BSC) – see www.bscbenefitsconnect.com—will vary based on actual location of the position and other pertinent factors considered in determining actual compensation for the role. Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

 

Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
