The Principal Strategic Sourcing Specialist is responsible for developing and executing category and sourcing strategies for Electronics categories that meet and exceed product quality and achieving service and cost improvement targets. The individual in this role will also lead a category team of cross-functional partners in Supplier Quality and Supplier Engineering to achieve category objectives and collaborate with Divisional stakeholders to align on optimal sourcing strategies within our Electronics category. Our ideal candidate has exceptional negotiation skills, is passionate about product quality, has a proven track record of reducing costs and improving delivery times, has expertise managing multiple contracts, and enjoys cross-functional and multi-division collaboration.
Your Responsibilities Include:
- Establishing category strategies that result in a sustainable competitive advantage
- Managing strategic supplier relationships in line with company and category expectations
- Negotiating and executing contracts that deliver the best outcomes for Boston Scientific
- Driving sustained year-over-year value improvement related to quality, service, and cost
- Defining technology roadmaps that align with long-term product/patient needs
- Collaborating with Supplier Engineering to develop should-cost models
- Gathering and analyzing market intelligence and reporting on trends, risks, etc.
- Identifying market/sourcing risks and working with stakeholders to define and execute mitigation plans
- Demonstrate the ability to effectively engage and influence a diverse range of stakeholders, ensuring alignment with project goals and organizational objectives. This includes building strong relationships, facilitating discussions, and negotiating outcomes that benefit all parties involved.
- Exhibit peer leadership skills by guiding and mentoring team members, fostering a collaborative environment, and promoting a culture of accountability and excellence. This role requires the ability to inspire and motivate colleagues, driving team performance through shared vision and mutual support
- Establishing an optimal balance between collaborative engagement and competitive pressure with supply base to ensure the maximum value is realized, including negotiations on supplier contracts and value improvements
- Providing source selection recommendations for new products that align with the category strategy
- Driving early supplier involvement with R&D to achieve development objectives, timelines, and costs
- Implement best practices in project management execution, utilizing methodologies that enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Monitor progress, adjust strategies as necessary, and ensure that project deliverables meet quality standards and stakeholder expectations.
- Attending on-site supplier visits for assessments, negotiations, business reviews, etc.
- Facilitating the identification and evaluation of new materials or technologies
- Identifying and rationalizing insourcing vs. outsourcing opportunities
- Supporting or leading business process improvement projects
- Providing support to Site Purchasing Teams as required
- Establishing a work environment of continuous improvement that supports Boston Scientific’s Quality Policy, Quality System, and applicable regulations
- Facilitating supplier business reviews
What We’re Looking For:
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or a related field
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in Sourcing, Supply Chain Management, or Supplier Relationship Management
- Ability to travel up to 20%
Preferred Qualifications:
- MBA and / or Professional Certification (CPSM, CPIM, CSCP, PMP, Lean Six Sigma, etc.)
- Sourcing experience for electronic components or medical devices
- Experience working in medical device or similar regulated industry
- Strong decision-making and negotiation skills, ability to influence internal and external teams.
- Experience with project management and peer leadership
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams to complete projects
- Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to communicate effectively with individuals on all levels
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills: process and results-oriented
- Detail oriented with strong organizational skills; ability to multi-task and prioritize competing responsibilities effectively
