About the role:
Boston Scientific is seeking a Program Management Office (PMO) Associate Director to lead the CRMDx PMO organization and drive strategic and operational excellence across the division. This senior leadership role is responsible for establishing strong business governance, advancing portfolio and performance management, and strengthening program management capabilities across R&D.
The Associate Director will partner closely with divisional and corporate leadership to align CRMDx priorities with enterprise strategy, ensuring disciplined investment decisions that maximize innovation, operational efficiency, and patient impact.
Work model, sponsorship, relocation:
This position is based on-site at our Arden Hills, MN location and requires employees to be in the office at least four days per week to support collaboration and alignment with key business stakeholders. Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Governance
- Lead development and execution of R&D Strategic and Annual Operating Plans (AOP)
- Establish and oversee governance frameworks supporting investment prioritization, decision-making, and performance accountability
- Partner with R&D, Finance, and business leaders on portfolio health reviews, investment trade-offs, and planning cycles
- Provide executive-level visibility into portfolio performance, resource allocation, and value realization
Portfolio & Performance Management
- Define, monitor, and communicate portfolio KPIs to drive transparency and accountability
- Lead development of portfolio analytics and dashboards using tools such as Planisware (Lumos) and PowerBI
- Drive consistent adoption of PMO methodologies, lifecycle processes, and performance metrics
- Partner with enterprise and divisional PMOs to harmonize best practices
Functional & Organizational Excellence
- Champion program management functional excellence, capability development, and leadership growth
- Build a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and execution excellence
- Oversee training, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing initiatives
- Identify and implement enhancements to PMO operations, systems, and organizational effectiveness
Cross-Functional Influence
- Serve as a key interface between R&D and Corporate functions including Finance, Operations, Quality, Regulatory, and IT
- Represent the PMO in executive governance councils, steering committees, and investment forums
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing insights that inform strategic decision-making
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field
- 10+ years of progressive experience in program or portfolio management, preferably within R&D in a regulated industry
- Proven experience leading PMO organizations or large-scale transformation initiatives
- Strong strategic planning, governance, and cross-functional leadership capabilities
- Advanced proficiency in PPM tools (Planisware Lumos or similar), PowerBI, and Excel
- Strong financial acumen, including experience supporting AOPs and forecasting
Preferred qualifications and competencies:
- Master’s degree (MBA or related discipline)
- PMP, PgMP, or PfMP certification
- Experience in global portfolio management and process optimization
- Deep understanding of regulatory, quality, and compliance requirements in medical devices
