About the role:
As an integral part of our team, the R&D Manager will oversee a group of electrical engineers dedicated to new product development across various franchises within the Hardware Design Team. This role involves leading a high-performing team in collaboration with cross-functional members to drive innovation and implement design changes to our existing product portfolio. The R&D Manager will guide the engineering staff through the continuous expansion of our portfolio, make technical and business-level decisions, and ensure the recruitment and retention of top talent. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of building trust with direct reports and demonstrating strong leadership and decision-making skills across core team functions.

Your responsibilities will include:

Implements a staffing plan by identifying resource requirements, writing justifications for additional personnel, obtaining approval for changes, and coordinating the selection process with Human Resources.

Develops direct reports by securing appropriate training, assigning suitably challenging tasks, fostering mentorships as needed, applying disciplinary action when appropriate, and conducting formal written and verbal performance reviews.

Monitors daily work operations and provides direction and guidance to, experienced exempt employees, or skilled nonexempt staff to achieve unit or project goals.

Interacts with internal and external customers, by meeting regularly, responding to requests and explaining procedures.

Interprets and executes policies that affect work processes and personnel within the assigned organizational unit.

Contributes to the development of operational policies and procedures that affect personnel within the assigned organizational unit.

Monitors compliance with company policies and procedures (e.g. compliance with FDA, BSI, EEO regulations etc).

Monitors internal and external indicators by reviewing reports and newsletters, reading organizational literature, meeting with peers and reading departmental reports.

Contributes to the development and monitoring of area budget through regular analysis of cost and spending.
Required Qualifications:
-
Bachelor's degree in an engineering field
-
5+ years of technical leadership, preferably in medical device industry

Experience with full testing life cycle, from understanding test requirements to submission ready test reports/documentation

Proven ability to transparently and concisely communicate technical issues and risks across all levels of the organization

Experience supporting a company culture of knowledge driven product development and engineering excellence

Familiarity with statistical analysis and data driven decision making
Preferred qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or biomedical engineering with an electrical emphasis

Master's degree or above

Experience managing direct reports (Technicians/Designers/Engineers)

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
