About the role:

Boston Scientific is seeking a highly motivated and tactically minded Senior Chemist within the Active Implantable Systems (AIS) group.

 

This role will be responsible for providing biomedical engineering skills to support the development of novel sensor technology and associated devices for the treatment of heart failure.

 

The AIS group includes technologies that monitor, support diagnosis and treat irregular heart rhythms, heart failure, and sudden cardiac arrest. AIS provides devices and therapies for a patient’s entire continuum of care, from diagnostic to treatment. This division strives to innovate and create a paradigm shift that can solve unmet clinical needs and change what is possible for patients.

 

Work model and sponsorship:

This role follows an onsite work model, requiring employees to be in our Arden Hills, MN office at least four days per week. Boston Scientific will not offer sponsorship or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position.  

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Technical execution in sensors development using technical and creative acumen to support new technology and/or new market opportunities.
  • Facilitate design, development, and testing of complex bioelectronic systems comprised of PCB design, optoelectronic interfaces, power management, wireless communication, and subassembly production test designs.
  • Recognize and communicate, design gaps and opportunities.
  • Propose and evaluate problem resolution actions.
  • Execute deliverables within the Technical Development Plan and Quality Systems.
  • Collaborate as needed with Process Development, Clinical, Quality and Manufacturing teams throughout product lifecycle.
  • Participate in design reviews and planning sessions.
  • Maintain substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories in area of expertise.
  • Work independently within functional / divisional policies while maintaining good communication with functional and cross-functional teams.
  • Work collaboratively with diverse personnel at the interfaces of technical domains.
  • Provide technical feedback on potential customer specific enhancements or new applications.
  • Ensure new products and enhancements are designed to facilitate transfer to manufacturing.
  • Generate solutions that serve both user and manufacturability requirements.
  • Ensure that engineering testing and documentation is in accordance with defined procedural and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with patent attorneys in documenting innovative ideas, reviewing patent applications, and supporting Freedom to Operate Analysis.
  • Is an active advocate for quality and design effectiveness.

 

Required qualifications:

  • PhD degree in biomedical engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience working under and knowledge of quality systems designed to meet FDA/EU regulatory requirements.
  • Competence in at least one of the following: MATLAB, Excel, Python, or Minitab.
  • Hands on work habits.
  • See it, own it, do it ethos.
  • Willingness to work and learn at the boundaries of electronics, design, manufacturing, chemistry, and optics.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Professional, clear verbal and written communications skills required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time.

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Wearable sensor technology experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in medical device design or similar products.
  • Background includes optical theory and/or experience.
  • Class II or Class III medical device product development experience.

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

 

Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).

 

Compensation for exempt, non-sales roles may also include variable compensation, i.e., annual bonus target and long-term incentives (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
