About the role:
The Senior Electrical Engineer (Cables) will apply their expertise in the definition, design, and testing of cable and harness systems for the development of EP ablation medical devices. As a member of the EP electrical hardware design team in Montreal, you will make significant contributions to the creation of first-of-a-kind, life-changing medical technologies through the design, validation, and integration of cable assemblies and harness systems supporting high-voltage therapy delivery, communication, and sensor interfaces. You will have the opportunity to own and lead key aspects of the design while collaborating with an experienced and multidisciplinary team, providing substantial technical and career growth opportunities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Design, develop, and test cable assemblies and harness systems using current tools, analysis techniques, and industry best practices.
- Design of sterile cables for medical device products; 10x sterilized, single use device while maintaining functionality and dielectric strength of cables.
- Solve engineering problems by analyzing design challenges and recommending corrective or alternative actions.
- Select appropriate cables, connectors, components, and materials considering mechanical, electrical, and regulatory requirements.
- Create detailed documentation, including wiring diagrams, schematics, procedures, reports, and change requests.
- Manage development efforts by maintaining design records in Jira and other approved tracking tools.
- Communicate clearly with stakeholders during key technical updates to facilitate effective decision-making.
- Communicate priorities, requirements and design constraints to cable suppliers.
- Identify and develop novel improvements to cable and harness systems, contributing to Boston Scientific's Intellectual Property portfolio.
- Collaborate with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing teams to ensure project success.
- Provide work direction to technicians and junior engineers, including training and mentoring.
- Demonstrate a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality by maintaining compliance with documented quality processes and procedures.
- Creates advanced CAD models of parts, assemblies and equipment using SolidWorks tools and SolidWorks Electrical.
- Creates drawings in SolidWorks following internal Global Boston Scientific Corporation CAD standards and templates.
- Uses CAD Database Management tool to track drawings, parts, assemblies’ revisions and properties.
- Develops new concepts from initial design to market release.
- Directs support personnel and coordinates project activities.
- Maintains detailed documentation throughout all phases of research and development.
- Willingness and desire to understand the constraints of working in a highly regulated industry. Including successfully completing trainings required by regulating bodies.
Required qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- 5+ years of relevant work experience with an undergraduate degree, or 3 years with a master’s degree.
- Strong understanding of cable and harness design, including selection of materials and components.
- Experience with cable routing, shielding, strain relief, and EMI/EMC best practices.
- Proficiency in creating detailed schematics and documentation for cable systems using design tools such as Altium, AutoCAD, SolidWorks or similar.
- Solid lab experience, including assembly, testing of cable and harness systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to conduct root cause analysis.
- Familiarity with industry standards for medical devices and electronic systems.
- Ability to provide technical leadership related to product and process design.
- Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on technical inputs from multiple and varied sources.
- Excellent organizational, communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in the design of cable assemblies for medical devices.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards related to medical electronic systems.
- Knowledge of international standards (ISO) that dictate the design requirements of electrical systems.
- Experience with automated test systems and data analysis tools such as LabView, MATLAB, or Python.
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Experience in working cross-functionally with diverse teams to meet project timelines.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes for cable and harness assembly, including validation and verification procedures.
- Experience using Solidworks Electrical 2D schematic and 3D Routing.
- Experience in Sterilization and material compatibility of Single Use Device products for medical device.
- Completion of formal training such as Lean Design Six Sigma (LDSS) or Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
