About the role:
This role drives the development and reliability of electronic subsystems by performing electrical testing, PCB design, and layout activities that directly support innovative medical device technologies. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to life‑changing products by ensuring high‑quality hardware performance through hands‑on test execution and design refinement. This role supports the R&D division within the relevant therapeutic area and operates in a hybrid work mode.
Work Mode:
At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring employees to be in our Arden Hills, MN office at least three days per week.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Develop, execute, and document electrical test plans, procedures, and validation protocols for PCB assemblies and system‑level hardware.
- Perform PCB schematic design and layout, including component selection, routing, and DFM/DFT considerations.
- Conduct failure analysis, identify root causes, and collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams.
- Utilize oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and other diagnostic tools to characterize circuit performance.
- Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, firmware, and manufacturing engineering stakeholders.
- Support design verification and regulatory documentation by generating detailed test reports.
- Provide technical input regarding PCB manufacturability and test fixture requirements.
- Manage testing schedules and prioritize tasks to meet project timelines.
- May provide directions to technicians or junior engineers.
- Travel may be required (less than 10%).
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; 5+ years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in electrical testing, hardware validation, or PCB debugging.
- Hands‑on experience with PCB schematic capture and layout tools such as Altium or Cadence.
- Proficiency with oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and logic analyzers.
- Ability to interpret schematics, component datasheets, and system requirements.
- Ability to work onsite when required based on lab and hardware development needs.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Experience in the medical device industry.
- Experience with EMC/EMI testing or signal‑integrity simulations.
- Familiarity with embedded systems, firmware interfaces, or mixed‑signal circuit design.
- Experience designing test fixtures or automated test scripts.
- Statistical analysis experience using tools like Minitab, Python, or JMP.
