Senior Manager – Firmware Engineering

About the Role:

 

This is a key management role in R&D leading a high performing team responsible for the efficient, high-quality development of safety critical embedded software (firmware) for implantable medical devices used in Cardiac Rhythm Management Therapy and Diagnostic systems as well as Prosthetic Urology applications. This team’s primary activities are to create firmware requirements and design, implement the firmware, and test the firmware using various white box and black box approaches. The design, implementation and maintenance of test automation systems is also a function of this team. This role heavily interfaces with other R&D functional managers (Systems, Hardware, Software) and cross functional stakeholders (Quality, Med Safety, Regulatory) as well as a global team of R&D engineers.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Directly manages a team of full-time employees spanning a broad range of engineering levels as well as non-exempt employees.
  • Provides direction & guidance to team members who exercise significant latitude & independence in assignments. 
  • Responsible for recruiting, coaching, and developing organizational talent.

  • Makes decisions regarding work processes or operational plans and schedules in order to achieve department objectives.
  • Responsible for developing, monitoring and appropriately adjusting the annual budget for the department.

 

 

Required Qualifications:

 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or more from an accredited school in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or related field
  • 10+ years of engineering work experience (with a Bachelor’s degree) or 8+ years of experience with a related Master’s degree
  • 3+ years of experience managing engineering teams
  • 3+ years of experience in the medical device industry
  • 3+ years of experience developing product software (embedded software).
  • Knowledge of Cardiac Rhythm Management products (pacemakers, defibrillators, leads, programmer, communicator, mobile device, patient management application).
  • Knowledge of Lean/Agile concepts including scrums, burnups, retrospectives, backlog, and minimizing WIP.
  • Knowledge of software engineering methods and tools (structured development, thread management, static analysis, unit/integration/verification testing).
  • Knowledge of test automation systems for software development.
  • Knowledge of test protocol development.
  • Design Controls expertise with particular focus on requirements, design, verification and traceability.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

 

  • Experience developing regulated, safety critical software.
  • Experience working with global R&D teams.
  • Experience leading a high performing team of experienced engineers.
  • Ability to prioritize resource needs across competing projects and franchises.
  • Experience in leading change management initiatives.
  • Strong communication skills, including technical discussions at all levels.
  • Ability to develop partnerships with cross-functional areas within and outside of product development.

Base Salary Range

Minimum Salary:  $ 122100 

Maximum Salary: $ 232000 

 

The anticipated compensation listed above and the value of core and optional employee benefits offered by Boston Scientific (BSC) – see www.bscbenefitsconnect.com--will vary based on actual location of the position and other pertinent factors considered in determining actual compensation for the role. Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

 

 

Compensation for exempt roles may also include variable compensation, i.e., annual bonus target and long-term incentives (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
