The Senior Packaging Engineer is responsible for the design, development and implementation of labeling and packaging solutions that support product performance, regulatory compliance and operational excellence. This role serves as a technical subject matter expert, driving innovation, sustainability and cost-efficiency initiatives across product portfolios.
Working cross-functionally with R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Operations and Supply Chain, the Senior Packaging Engineer ensures packaging and labeling systems meet global regulatory requirements while protecting product integrity and supporting business objectives.
Work model, sponsorship, relocation:
At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows a hybrid work model requiring employees to be in our local office at least three days per week. Your responsibilities will include:
● Lead the design, development, validation and implementation of labeling and packaging solutions to ensure product integrity, regulatory compliance and cost effectiveness
● Serve as a technical expert for packaging materials, labeling systems and related processes across new product development and sustaining projects
● Partner with cross-functional teams to define project requirements, timelines and risk mitigation strategies aligned to R&D and commercial milestones
● Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on sustainability, material optimization and total cost of ownership
● Ensure compliance with company policies, quality system requirements and applicable global regulatory standards
● Identify and resolve complex technical challenges through structured problem-solving and risk management methodologies
● Support supplier selection, qualification and performance monitoring for packaging and labeling components
● Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to support team capability development
Qualifications:
Required qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
● Minimum of 5 years' experience in product labeling and/or packaging engineering
● Demonstrated project management experience with the ability to influence and drive cross-functional performance
● Experience working within regulated industries and quality systems
● Ability to travel globally up to 20%
Preferred qualifications:
● Master’s degree in an engineering or related discipline
● Minimum of 3 years' experience supporting technical leadership or mentoring engineers
● Experience designing packaging and/or labeling for Class II or Class III medical devices
● Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at multiple organizational levels
● Highly organized and results oriented with the ability to manage multiple complex initiatives
