Senior Supplier Engineer – Acquisitions (Extrusions & Catheter Systems)

About the Role:


As a Senior Supplier Engineer – Acquisitions, you will serve as the technical lead for extrusion-based components and complex catheter systems across Boston Scientific’s acquisition portfolio. This role is dedicated exclusively to evaluating, integrating, and stabilizing acquired technologies and supplier networks—from early diligence through post-close scale-up.

You will own supplier engineering strategy for acquisitions involving polymer extrusions, multilumen tubing, reinforced shafts, and finished catheter assemblies, ensuring inherited designs and processes can meet Boston Scientific’s standards for quality, reliability, scalability, and regulatory compliance.

This is a high-impact, front-end role that operates in ambiguity. You will be expected to surface risk early, make defensible technical calls, and drive suppliers and internal teams to resolution under aggressive timelines.

Your Responsibilities Include:

  • Serve as the supplier engineering lead for all extrusion and catheter-related scope in acquisitions, from technical due diligence through post-close integration.
  • Lead supplier and process due diligence, including on-site assessments of extrusion processes, materials, tooling, secondary operations, and finished catheter assembly.
  • Identify design, process, capacity, quality, and regulatory risks within acquired supplier ecosystems and define mitigation and integration plans.
  • Partner with R&D and Design Assurance to assess design robustness and manufacturability of acquired catheter systems and recommend design or process changes as required.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering and Operations Quality to execute acquisition-specific deliverables, including:
    • Supplier and material qualification strategies
    • Supplier remediation and change assessments
    • Capacity and capability stabilization plans
    • Regulatory and materials compliance evaluations
  • Act as the technical escalation point for supplier-related issues during acquisition integration, driving root cause analysis, corrective actions, and long-term prevention
  • Partner with Global Sourcing to inform supplier strategy decisions, including continuation, transition, dual sourcing, or exit of inherited suppliers
  • Communicate technical risks, gaps, and recovery plans clearly to site leadership and acquisition stakeholdersSupport value capture by identifying cost, quality, and scalability improvements as acquired technologies are integrated into Boston Scientific’s operating model
  • Maintain uncompromising focus on patient safety, product quality, and compliance throughout acquisition activities

What We're Looking For:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical discipline
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience supporting complex extrusion-based or catheter systems in a regulated manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with external suppliers in a technical leadership role
  • Ability to travel 10–15% globally in support of acquisition-related supplier assessments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep expertise in medical-grade polymer extrusion, including multilumen tubing and reinforced catheter shafts
  • Hands-on experience with complex catheter construction, bonding processes, and secondary operations
  • Experience performing supplier technical due diligence and supporting M&A integration activities
  • Strong understanding of polymer materials, performance characteristics, and reliability drivers
  • Experience operating in medical device or other GMP-regulated industries
  • Working knowledge of risk assessment, process capability analysis, and structured problem-solving methodologies
  • Proven ability to operate independently, make sound technical judgments in incomplete data environments, and influence without formal authority
  • Clear, direct communicator comfortable engaging with senior technical and business leadership

Additional Information:

This position follows a hybrid work model, requiring on-site presence at least three days per week to support acquisition reviews, supplier assessments, and cross-functional integration work.

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
