About the role:
Boston Scientific Corporation (BSC) is dedicated to providing high quality veterinary care for animals used to support product research and development activities across the global BSC businesses. In an AAALAC accredited facility, the person filling this position will provide veterinary medical and surgical services, assist with animal model development, and provide direction and training to research investigators, support staff and animal care personnel participating in the research and preclinical safety assessment processes. This person filling this position will work closely with the Facility Veterinarians, research support staff, and research investigators to ensure compliance with federal regulations, industry guidelines, and company policies regarding the use of animals in biomedical research.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Participate in animal model development and study refinement to support medical device research and product development in multiple therapeutic areas
  • Work with Study Directors to ensure rigorous experimental design and establish study protocols that meet all requirements for animal care according to the Animal Welfare Act as administered by the USDA-APHIS
  • Collaborate with engineers and scientists on project teams to understand their animal model development and preclinical study needs
  • Provide regulatory review of proposed animal use and ensure compliance with USDA and AAALAC standards
  • Work closely with veterinary staff to provide specialized surgical support, animal model development and procedural services in support of research projects. Provide direction regarding clinical case evaluation and therapy
  • Develop novel approaches to promote ethical animal well-being and care, while preserving study endpoints
  • Contribute to policies and best practices for global animal care and use
  • Contribute to a comprehensive surgical program for canine, swine, and ovine
  • Participate in and conduct a variety of teaching and training efforts for investigators, research support staff and animal care technicians
  • Collaborate, consult and assist research staff with animal model development and the use of established animal models
  • Assist in the conduct of internal audits and other inspections
  • As needed, assist with the evaluation of third-party facility inspections and audits
  • Manage and/or participate in the veterinary and preventive healthcare program
  • Ensure and maintain the health status of the animal colony through oversight of preventative health, sentinel programs and vendor surveillance
  • Provide veterinary diagnostic support and clinical care to the research colony

Required qualifications:

  • Ability to perform physical tasks associated with veterinary surgery and large animal veterinary care
  • DVM – license or license eligible in state of MN required
  • 2+ years of applicable experience 
  • Veterinary Surgical background


Preferred qualifications:

  • Diplomate ACVIM (Cardiology)
  • Teaching/mentoring background
  • Preclinical experience in medical device or pharmaceutical industry
  • Experience in cardiac electrophysiology
  • Experience with diagnostic imaging techniques
  • USDA Veterinary Accreditation 
  • GLP experience
  • Regulatory report writing experience
