Supplier Quality Engineering Manager – Acquisitions Direct Materials

 

Initially, this role will need to be worked onsite in our Carlsbad, CA facility for a duration of up to 2 years. After that, this role can be worked hybrid from our Arden Hills, MN location. 

 

About this role:

This role presents a fast paced and dynamic leadership opportunity within the Global Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE) organization. This individual will be responsible for leading a team of SQEs within a newly acquired company, working with direct materials across Single-Use Devices, Capital Equipment, and accessories. SQE's are core members of multi-functional Global Sourcing Teams that define and execute sourcing strategies. They take an active ownership role within the Material Controls QS sub-process, owning assessments for supplier onboarding and surveillance of the Approved Vendor List, and supporting internal and external QSM audits. Your role will deliver improvement in supplier process capability and product performance, reducing risk related to sustaining direct materials and integrating supplier and material controls into BSC standard processes. Your role will also influence the development of early-career and experienced engineers to provide stretch opportunities, guidance, and critical feedback to support the needs of the business and the growth of the engineer. You will work alongside a seasoned leadership team that is motivated to partner for success.

 

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead your team and projects to successful conclusions by setting a clear strategy and achieving strategic milestones
  • Coach sound, systematic problem-solving methodologies in identifying, prioritizing, communicating, and resolving quality issues
  • Develop direct reports by securing appropriate training, assigning progressively challenging tasks, applying progressive disciplinary action as appropriate and conducting formal written and verbal performance reviews
  • Maintain and enhance cross-functional team relationships within the divisions, plants, and distribution centers across the entire BSC network
  • Monitor, evaluate, and provide summary reports on project progress and results
  • Provide appropriate issue oversight, risk evaluation, and action to mitigate impact to Boston Scientific 
  • Identify, develop, and implement processes to improve department performance
  • Collaborate with corporate and regional supplier quality organizations on policy, procedure, and guideline development. Includes generation, review, and implementation of these documents.
  • Champion compliance with company policies and procedures (e.g. compliance with FDA, ISO, MDR regulations)
  • Contribute to the development of operational policies and procedures that affect personnel within the assigned organizational unit
  • Contribute to the development and monitoring of area budgets.
  • Implement a staffing plan by identifying resource requirements, writing justifications for additional personnel, obtaining approval for changes, and coordinating the selection process with Human Resources
  • Foster a diverse workplace that enables all participants to contribute to their full potential in pursuit of organizational objectives

 

What we are looking for

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Science or other technical degree
  • 5+ years of quality engineering experience working with functional areas across divisions/sites
  • Strong facilitation & communication skills with the ability to successfully interact at all levels of the organization with proven ability to lead individuals, complex projects, and solve difficult technical problems
  • Highly adaptable, willing to accept new ideas, and ability to create, influence, and implement global strategies and policies successfully
  • Articulate communicator, adept at packaging and appropriately scaling information to the intended audience
  • Passionate about leading people to bring out their best 
  • Proven ability to get the day-to-day tasks completed efficiently to make time for individuals to develop professionally and personally, and to engage in projects that drive their passion(s)
  • Ability to understand decision making in a risk-based environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of medical device engineering experience preferred.
  • Global Sourcing or Operations experience preferred
  • MBA, advanced degree
  • Lead auditor of quality systems experience (ISO 13485 or similar).
  • ASQ certification (CQE, CBA, SSGB, SSBB) desired.
  • Prior experience within a quality function
  • Previous experience with technology and supplier acquisition & integration
  • Experience leading virtual teams
  • Experience recruiting & developing a high performance technical team
  • Ability to interface with project management and internal customers to gather insights

The anticipated compensation listed above and the value of core and optional employee benefits offered by Boston Scientific (BSC) – see www.bscbenefitsconnect.com--will vary based on actual location of the position and other pertinent factors considered in determining actual compensation for the role. Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

 

Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).

 

Compensation for exempt, non-sales roles may also include variable compensation, i.e., annual bonus target and long-term incentives (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
