About the role:
The Health Economics and Market Access (HEMA) Vice President will establish and lead the global HEMA organization for the AF Solutions and Cardiac Rhythm Management & Diagnostics (CRMDx) businesses at Boston Scientific.  This individual will develop and direct the global HEMA strategy for all AF Solutions and CRMDx technologies (in development and marketed), including appropriate collaboration with regional HEMA leaders, Corporate HEMA, and marketing, clinical, regulatory, and other functions across the AF Solutions and CRMDx businesses. 

 

This is a hybrid position based in Arden Hills, MN.  

 

Your responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain a market leading HEMA organization and actively pursues gender and multicultural diverse team members that reflect BSC’s values and communities. Leadership responsibilities include: 
    • Representing HEMA as an active member of divisional management board and franchise leadership teams. 
    • Collaborating with internal business leadership and external stakeholders to develop HEMA strategies, secure resources, and execute said strategies through leadership of divisional HEMA team.
    • Leading an internal HEMA team responsible for effectively executing HEMA strategies at a franchise level and conducting both upstream and downstream HEMA activities in collaboration with R&D, Clinical, Regulatory, Medical Affairs, Sales and Marketing. 
    • Leading a Field HEMA team to achieve optimal U.S. payer coverage and supporting sales team members in addressing customers’ economic concerns and educating customers on procedural reimbursement including coding, coverage and payment for divisional technologies.
    • Actively participating in the HEMA functional leadership team through dotted-line reporting to the Vice President, Global HEMA, representing best practices and leveraging the experience and expertise of other divisional HEMA leaders.
  • Develop, communicate and manage development and execution of upstream and downstream market access strategies for key technologies, including informing R&D, developing evidence-driven value messaging, product launch planning and execution, and new business development.
  • Drive development of health economic evidence for franchises in support of funding/reimbursement and market development efforts.  This includes collaborating with relevant clinical teams to ensure that global HEMA data needs are incorporated into evidence plans and coordinating with the Corporate Health Economics Center of Excellence to define strategic health economic and outcomes research programs in conjunction with marketing and clinical and to secure appropriate funding to meet HEMA evidence needs.
  • Define and lead development of differentiating support tools that can be leveraged in the field by sales and / or Field HEMA team members to support adoption, patient access and business objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with regional and country-based HEMA team members in other markets to support global divisional business objectives and to ensure that global market access approaches are aligned with divisional goals.
  • Represent AF Solutions and CRMDx market access objectives with external organizations including physician specialty societies and industry associations When necessary, coordinate advocacy with other interested stakeholders (including other manufacturers) to advocate for health policy objectives that will support divisional objectives, observing all appropriate antitrust and compliance rules and standards.
  • Collaborate with Government Affairs team members to support divisional business objectives through legislative and political advocacy.
  • Develop and execute, in coordination with Corporate HEMA leadership, Medicare, Medicaid, VA/DOD and commercial insurance strategies to ensure optimal coding, coverage and payment for AF Solutions and CRMDx technologies across all sites of service.

 

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree. 
  • Minimum 15 years working in the health economics and market access field
  • Extensive team management experience
  • Detailed knowledge of US healthcare financing system including payment systems of key payers including Medicare and commercial payers in all sites of service.
  • Experience leveraging clinical and economic data.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the healthcare industry and healthcare systems. Global experience with a strong understanding of global health system and healthcare funding processes and policies.
  • Ability to present complex HEMA information to both large and small influential 
  • Demonstrated responsiveness and sense of urgency when developing and executing strategies, addressing customer concerns and responding to HEMA challenges from competitors, Medicare and other public payers and commercial insurers.
  • Experience influencing Medicare payment policy proposals
  • Ability to travel up to 30% 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Advanced degree such as an MBA, MPH, MHA, MS, or MSc in health policy, health economics, healthcare administration, health services research, public health, or similar discipline 
  • Experience working in the health economics and market access field with complex single-use medical device experience.
  • Experience managing a diverse team of non-field-based and field-based employees.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills including developing relationships at all levels in an organization and directly influencing business objectives.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision.
