About the role
As Legal Counsel, you will serve as a strategic legal partner to the business, providing practical, risk-based guidance across commercial, regulatory, compliance and other legal matters. You will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to enable business objectives while protecting Boston Scientific and strengthening its culture of compliance.
Your responsibilities will include advising on complex legal matters, negotiating and supporting commercial agreements, managing litigation, and providing legal guidance on advertising, labeling and HCP-related activities. You will also contribute to compliance validation, monitoring and remediation programs and support specific entities and strategic projects as needed.
Success in this role requires strong legal and business judgment, the ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical business solutions, and effective collaboration across Legal, Compliance and business functions.
Work model, sponsorship, relocation:
At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows a hybrid work model requiring employees to be in our local office in Mexico City at least three days per week. Boston Scientific will not offer sponsorship or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position at this time. Relocation assistance is not available for this position at this time.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Serve as a trusted legal advisor to business leaders, providing practical, risk-based legal guidance aligned with business objectives and applicable laws and regulations.
- Advise on complex legal matters, including commercial and corporate matters, as applicable.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to identify, assess and mitigate legal risks while enabling informed business decisions.
- Provide legal support for specific business entities, initiatives and strategic projects.
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements.
- Support contract administration, contractual compliance, and the management of potential contractual breaches.
- Support compliance validation programs, including audits, monitoring, reviews and third-party compliance activities.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of standard operating procedures, compliance controls and remediation processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve legal and compliance processes, strengthen governance and enhance operational efficiency.
- Support the development and use of metrics, dashboards and reporting tools to monitor compliance activities and remediation progress.
- Provide guidance, knowledge sharing, training to colleagues and relevant stakeholders.
Technical Skills
- Ability to translate legal concepts into practical, actionable advice
- Excellent verbal and written skills
- Advanced knowledge of civil, mercantile and labor Mexican legislation
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple work assignments under tight timeframes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Master’s preferred in areas related to corporate law
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience
- Bilingual in Spanish and English, both verbal and written
- In-depth conceptual, practical, technical and/or functional knowledge of principles and theories relevant to the role, along with a general understanding of related job functions.
- Demonstrated experience applying functional knowledge across a variety of situations to accomplish objectives.
- Understanding of key business drivers within the organization's industry and how closely related teams work together to achieve objectives and improve efficiency.
- Ability to solve problems of varying scope and complexity.
- Ability to support team members through coaching, feedback, guidance and leading by example.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience leading small projects or defined project phases with manageable risks and resource requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across legal, compliance, marketing and other business functions.
- Ability to balance legal and compliance considerations with business objectives while exercising sound judgment.
