R&D Manager II – Cambridge, MA

 

About the role:

Functional Role

The Concept Development Team is responsible for leading the identification, development, and integration of cutting edge technologies into the Rhythmia mapping & navigation platform.  The Concept Development Team partners with Clinicians around the globe to design and develop novel algorithms and tools that continue to revolutionize electroanatomical mapping and arrhythmia treatment.  The Concept Development Manager is responsible for leading the team through exploratory development to establish feasibility and performance of new concepts partnering with the Marketing, Software & Systems Development, and Clinical functions.

 

 

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Manage multidisciplinary team of engineers working on advanced technology concepts
  • Work with EP Franchise leadership to establish strategic priorities for the product pipeline and ensure resource allocation directed appropriately
  • Identify opportunities, create project plans and budgets for prospective projects, and propose to the organization
  • Manage cost center budget and ensure efficient resource utilization
  • Provide routine feedback and coaching to individual contributors using the BSC Performance Assessment and Development Plan processes.
  • Create a culture of high expectations, accountability, strong engineering fundamentals.
  •  Ensure critical review of design deliverables and provide routine updates to Director & VP functional management and the EP Franchise as needed.
  • Take an active role in driving functional excellence to continuously improve R&D capability & execution.
  • Build external physician collaborations to ensure deep understanding of customer needs and integration into the design and evaluation process
  • Outline and support R&D activities on critical projects spanning across product development, technology development and exploratory work
  • Hire and develop top talent to provide technical leadership for diverse R&D projects.
  • Drive development of creative solutions or novel technology to advance BSC’s R&D competency and expand the EP portfolio.
  • Partner with pre-clinical, clinical and other R&D members in a cross-functional and multidisciplinary environment to achieve project success.
  • Manage intellectual property portfolio and physician contracts

 

What we’re looking for:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Electrical or Biomedical Engineering with minimum of 5+ years of direct supervisory management experience
  • Experience with the development of Class II/III medical devices.
  • Proven success with the full cycle of product development including
    Exploratory, Technology Development & Product Development
  • Experience working in clinical lab / healthcare environment and proven ability to build collaborative relationships with physicians and scientific collaborators
  • Demonstrated capability to lead high performing technical teams tackling complex problems.
  • Working knowledge of Design Controls & Risk Management practices
  • Working knowledge of preclinical models and lab environment
  • High integrity, accountability & a strong bias for action
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
