About the role:

Electrical Engineer III will work on a small, dynamic team of electrical engineers to test and develop electronic circuits for innovative medical technologies and processes. As part of the team, the candidate will be primarily responsible for performing root cause analysis of system electrical issues and identifying and implementing appropriate electrical tests for new and production circuits. Candidates should expect to participate in both new product development and sustaining activities. Candidate should have experience and understanding of FDA and global requirements regarding electrical devices and documentation requirements for medical devices or other regulated industries. Candidate should and have experience working with electrical tools such as oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies, and other lab tools and be familiar with the electrical development process including schematic and layout tools through Altium Designer.

 

This role is expected to have some experience in electrical design and analysis and be able to communicate and document engineering principles to non-technical individuals while accepting appropriate mentorship from senior members of the team.

 

It is preferred that the candidate be aware of common digital interfaces such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, HDMI, and ethernet along with troubleshooting analog signal paths and motors. Familiarity with medical safety standards such as IEC 60601-1 and EMC standards such as IEC 60601-1-2 are preferred. The individual should be able to work well in a team environment and cross-functionally with other technical disciplines such as software, mechanical, optical and be able to communicate interdependencies, limitations, and expected timelines.

 

Work Mode:

At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows an onsite work model, requiring employees to be present in our Carlsbad, CA office at least four to five days per week.

Your responsibilities will include:

Under limited supervision, and in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations and Bolt Medical procedures and guidelines, the responsibilities of the position include performing the following activities:

  • Diagnose electrical issues and recommend corrective/preventative plans.
  • Develop, test, and integrate electrical circuits.
  • Develop tools for production testing and data analysis.
  • Planning, conducting, and documenting tests in written reports.
  • Participation in development project core teams and reviews.
  • Other duties assigned as needed.

 

Required qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent is required or a master’s degree in electrical engineering is preferred.
  • Must have 3+ years of hands-on experience in electrical engineering in a regulated field (medical strongly preferred).
  • Must have hands-on experience with electrical test equipment and be able to identify hardware issues with utilizing logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, power supplies, or similar equipment.
  • Must have familiarity with electrical test methods.
  • Must be able to work when not all inputs are known upfront.
  • Must have experience in communicating with non-technical individuals or individuals unfamiliar with electrical engineering concepts.
  • Must have knowledge of analog circuit design for signal measurement and digital test/debugging.
  • Must be willing to be mentored and mentor as needed.

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Preference to individuals with experience in creating/maintaining schematics and layout in Altium Designer.
  • Preference to candidates with new product development experience.
  • Preference to candidates with experience with laser and optics.
  • Preference to candidates with ability to write firmware in C/C++.
  • Familiarity with reading standards and regulation documents.
  • Must be able to perform root cause analysis of electrical issues.
  • Must have excellent communication and writing skills involving both technical and non-technical documentation.
  • Must be able to express technical ideas to non-technical groups.
  • Experience with Altium Designer is strongly preferred.
  • Must have analytical reasoning with modeling and statistical approach to analysis.
  • Self-driven individual who is capable and excited to learn about new technologies.

The anticipated compensation listed above and the value of core and optional employee benefits offered by Boston Scientific (BSC) – see www.bscbenefitsconnect.com—will vary based on actual location of the position and other pertinent factors considered in determining actual compensation for the role. Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

 

Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).

 

Compensation for exempt, non-sales roles may also include variable compensation, i.e., annual bonus target and long-term incentives (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
