We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer on a permanent basis to join our team.

 

Job Purpose:

 

Responsible for supporting R&D projects for multiple Boston Scientific Divisions. Projects include external and capital systems with a focus on mechanical design.  The role will involve frequent interactions with external entities in clinical/non-clinical settings to complete research activities, identification / development of system requirements and presentations on work product / progress to senior leadership team. An experienced Design Engineer with a complete understanding and wide application of principle, theories, and concepts in relation to commercial product design. 

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

· Responsible for all aspects of mechanical design, including geometry, material selection, hardware fit, tolerancing, fabrication processes, assembly procedures, interconnects, and cable routing.

· Possesses good knowledge of environmental factors, thermal management, packaging, and labeling integration in product design.

· Demonstrates foresight and an intuitive grasp of optimal materials and process selection within budget, volume, and performance constraints.

· Applies Design for Excellence and Design for Manufacturing methodologies throughout the execution process.

· Designs solutions in direct response to system and subsystem requirements during the product lifecycle of complex capital equipment.

· Evaluates designs to identify manufacturing feasibility issues across various material options and corresponding fabrication methods.

· Implements designs following best practices, regulations, and relevant standards such as EMC/CE and IEC 60601.

· Collaborates with tool designers to ensure manufacturing feasibility, adherence to vendor guidelines, and process constraints.

· Proficient in SolidWorks, skilled at adjusting geometry without impacting surrounding design elements, working with master models, creating "in context" parts, and managing complex configurations.

· Exercises critical thinking in component selection, down-selection, and reliability testing.

· Component design including characterization, specification creation, identification of essential/non-essential design outputs.

· Work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

 

Education & Experience:

 

 

· Hons degree in Mechanical Engineering 

· Experience of 1 years + in similar type role.

· Commercial equipment design experience

· Experience in working through the design and development life cycle process. Experience delivering a product through the Total Product Lifecycle process.

· Proficient with Solidworks

· Knowledge of international standards and regulations in the electronics industry (ISO/ CE/ FCC);

· Experience in Design For Excellence methodologies

· Ability to direct/execute experiments in a lab setting to close knowledge gaps.
