Purpose:

The successful candidate will be part of a small dynamic Clonmel team, helping to develop new medical products in collaboration with our global partners.  These products are typically smart platforms, so essential desired skills are required in electronic engineering as well as mechanical integration. Knowledge of embedded software or other software skills are a significant advantage.     

Candidate would need to be comfortable working in the high quality, and highly regulated landscape associated with the development of medical devices.  The technician would not just be in a support role, but would also need be self-starting in terms of developing electronic circuits, as well as assembly and test.  Prototype developments as well as the later phases of medical devices are key responsibilities of the group, with the latter requiring significant attention to detail.  Candidate should have very good verbal and written communications and have a passion for collaboration, information sharing and team work.

It is anticipated that new knowledge and skills gaps will appear with new projects. The candidate is expected to be flexible, have a passion to learn, and fill these gaps as required by the team.

In all actions, demonstrates a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality by maintaining compliance to the Quality Policy and all other documented quality processes and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team working is core to this role, and is most suited to an excellent team player.
  • Demonstrate versatility, resourcefulness, and a willingness to learn and quickly fill skills gaps as required by fast moving projects.
  • Excellent soldering and electronic assembly skills.
  • Ability to design, document, assemble and test electronic circuits as required.
  • Have mechanical assembly and integration skills with mechanical design capability an advantage.
  • Embedded firmware and other software skills are a significant advantage. 
  • Microcontroller experience is a significant advantage.
  • Researches component solutions for new projects.
  • Perform Failure analysis on electronic medical devices to get to root cause to component level, using electronic schematics and documentation.
  • Maintains detailed documentation through all phases of development, testing and analysis in Boston Scientific tracking databases and systems.
  • Work with cross functional teams across the Boston Scientific network and external entities.
  • Have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Constructs, operates, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, and maintains equipment and systems.
  • Performs tests, analyses data and writes reports and has an ability to work from schematics, engineering drawings, and written or verbal instructions.
  • Performs set-up, testing, repair, inspection, and/or maintenance of all area-specific equipment, materials, systems, and/or product.
  • Performs routine and some non-routine technical assignments using standard methods and sequences
  • Other possible areas that of interest include RF and fluidics, but are not mandatory.
  • Is flexible to ensure that team meets agreed project timelines.

 

Qualifications:

Level 7 technical qualification in electronic engineering or related discipline
