Purpose Statement
Drives the development of early stage product concepts and projects by applying higher level engineering or scientific expertise. Works with minimal supervision, serves as a leader for projects, mentors junior staff and interacts cross functionally to design experiments and execute deliverables according to business needs. Refining, broadening, and applying scientific expertise within and across disciplines surrounding core business principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Remains knowledgeable of technologies within functional area, technology of expertise, and in the competitive landscape (e.g. relevant literature, attending conferences/meetings); identifies new applications for existing technologies.
- Proposes and evaluates application of new technologies and new targets for research/projects in alignment with business needs across functional areas.
- Mentors on technical or scientific area of expertise (e.g. experimental design, data analysis, and scientific techniques); may serve as a subject matter expert.
- When in supervisory role: sets and prioritizes goals and expectations of direct reports; coaches and manages performance of direct reports; promotes career and skills development for direct reports; identifies, engages, challenges, and develops individual
- Designs/documents complex experiments/protocols/test plans to align with project goals, both internal and external; executes independently and directs junior staff with execution; develops experimental path to meet POTC.
- Completes complex data analysis; for self and others, identifies and addresses problematic, potentially systematic, data; critiques results in relation to historical data; develops modified experimental paths based on results as appropriate.
- Summarizes results, generates and approves technical reports, and completes, reviews, and approves experimental documentation.
- Identifies and proposes methods and processes required for business needs; develops and integrates methods and processes.
- Participates primarily as a scientific consultant for projects of moderate complexity and secondarily for experimental design.
- Performs most experimental techniques and processes according to functional area; speaks to all experimental techniques and processes applicable to functional area.

- Completes project deliverables per the roles set forth for a CTM in the TDP or Feasibility Project guidelines for projects; identifies levers for go/no go decisions and incorporates them into project plan.
- Identifies what resources are required to meet project milestones; makes recommendations to team leader for project resource needs within function; may track and organize resources within function (people, equipment, supplies, contracts, spending).
- Completes project deliverables per the roles set forth for Team Lead in the TDP or Feasibility Project guidelines; identifies levers for go/no go decisions and incorporates them into project plan.
- Initiates and manages external collaborations/contracts relevant to project goals.

Educational Requirements
- Level 8 honours bachelor degree minimum in STEM
- 3 - 5 years experience in specified area
