Purpose Statement

The successful candidate will part of a team that tests medical device products for release and customer use from Boston Scientific.

The purpose of the Senior Analytical Chemist role is to lead the Analytical Chemistry lab in the Boston Scientific Cork site.

The role will also involve conducting analytical testing on validation, commercial, and non-routine samples. They are responsible for ensuring that all testing is carried out in accordance with cGMP.

This role will require an analytical expert to support putting systems in place and validate to ensure all activities are completed as per schedule.

 
 
 
Key Responsibilities
 
 
 
 
  • Provide analytical chemistry Subject Matter Expertise.
  • Support of the Equipment Engineering team in the qualification of analytical test equipment.
  • Support the hiring of new lab personnel as well as the training of new employees on Test Methods and GLP. Development and supervision of lab personnel.
  • Identify appropriate software applications to be utilized in the laboratory.
  • Management of laboratory equipment inventory & spend.
  • Ensure equipment calibration and qualification as required.
  • Ensure lab plan and schaedules are adhered to.
  • Participate in Value stream meetings.
  • Test method and equipment trouble shooting.
  • Aministrator on all software used within the chemistry laboratory-EMPOWER etc
  • Testing for release when required.
  • Control of contract testing and organising.
  • Ahererance to data integrity at all times
  • Adherance to safety on site at all times
  • Support new product development and introduction.
  • Approver of procedural and test method updates.
  • VIP identification and champion of improvement within the chemistry laboratory.
  • Audit lead, internal and external- representative for the laboratory.
  • Ensure management of materials through the lab- release, validation and stability.
  • Review of all laboratory Quality Systems to ensure compliance to cGMP.
  • Provide training (induction/ on the job/ procedures and updates), technical guidance / trouble shooting to laboratory staff including review of associated training records.
  • Provide progress updates at Project Meetings and site management meetings. Be able to communicate clearly and to form strong working relationships with colleagues.
  • Carry out other reasonable tasks as required by the Line Manager. Train to Boston Scientific’s Quality system documentation e.g. Change Control and Analytical Test Method Validation etc. Create, review and approve change requests as required.
  • Demonstrate problem solving in delivering process and analytical understanding.
  • Ensure compliance with mandatory training requirements and ensure that your training records are up to date and compliant to cGMP.
  • Willingness to travel when required.

 

Education/Qualifications

 

  • Level 8 required ideally in Chemistry or other relevant discipline
  • Minimum 5 years’ GMP experience in Analytical Chemistry environment is required for this role, with at least 2-years supervisory experience.
  • Minimum 2 years People Management experience required
  • Excellent Communicator and ability to work on own initiative while supporting and developing team
  • Experience of working in a lab based environment ideally with a Pharma background
  • Ability to influence and drive for results
