We’re looking for a Senior EH&S Specialist to join our dynamic team where your expertise and initiative truly make a difference. This role requires an onsite workmode from our Coventry, RI office.
Your responsibilities will include: |
- Responsible for the ongoing development, implementation, and review of the Environmental Management System. (ISO 14001). Serves as EMS Management representative for the site. Conducts Management Review Council meetings in accordance with program requirements. Trains entire site on ISO 14001 Awareness and heads communication about current environmental aspects, objectives and targets. Serves as internal ISO auditor for other sites
- Proactively researches and implements sustainability projects wherever feasible including but not limited to: energy saving initiatives, efforts to reduce air emissions, and waste reduction efforts. Heads site Green Team and execute two community service/environmental awareness events annually.
- Ensures site regulatory compliance with all environmental programs including but not limited to: Stormwater, Tier II reporting, SPCC, Hazardous & Universal Waste, Air permit, Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS), Source Registration. Conducts training for affected employees where applicable. Completes Environmental self-assessments on site programs annually
- Responsible for developing procedures, approvals, coordination and control of hazardous, regulated, and solid wastes specific to the site. Tracks and ensures all manifests for waste pickup are kept audit ready.
- Assists Occupational Health Nurse on site health initiatives including but not limited to: flu clinics, blood drives, bloodborne pathogen training/awareness, respiratory fit tests, and wellness programs.
- Serves as Ergonomics advisor and proactively conducts Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) and workstation assessments for the site. Develops and carries out corrective action plans as applicable.
- Ensures site regulatory compliance with all safety programs including but not limited to: Hot Work permitting, Fall Protection, Materials Handling Equipment (MHE) safety, Hazard Communication, Chemical Inventory, Confined Space Inventory, Contractor Safety Program, Electrical Safety & LOTO Programs. Conducts training for affected employees where applicable. Completes annual safety self-assessments on site programs.
- Establishes and tracks metrics for assessing EH&S effectiveness in the organization, including the OSHA Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) and OSHA Lost/Restricted Worktime Rate (LWR). Develops and executes safety culture plans to reduce worker injury and lost time rates. Conducts bi-weekly Safety Assurance Team Meetings with various departments. Participates in action plans to close out safety observations as needed. Leads safety inspection walkthroughs. Tracks and reports on monthly PBR (Positive Behavior Rate) and SICR (Safety Improvement Closure Rate) metrics. Develops reporting improvement plans as needed.
- Conducts regular Industrial Hygiene monitoring for ethylene oxide and writes/delivers reports for individual exposures. Participates on EO mitigation team with Coventry, RI. Trains affected employees on EO awareness.
- Responsible for emergency planning and takes leadership role in EH&S emergency situations. Ensures that adequate evacuation and response arrangements are in place for fire, accidents and all other emergency situations. Conducts/reviews annual evacuation drills. Takes a lead role in accident/incident investigations and organizes root cause investigation teams.
- Conducts safety risk assessments on processes and equipment. Proactively addresses EH&S issues which may affect operations or may provide strategic advantage to the business Develops, tracks and closes corrective action plans for mitigating identified risks.
- Assists development of content and presentations for leadership meetings such as : Employee All Hands, Monthly Management Staff and Senior Leadership meetings.
- Updates all necessary EH&S postings and information regarding key programs and initiatives as needed.
- Works with all levels of departments on safety and quality initiatives. Fosters a community of continuous improvement in all things related to our business, patient care and quality.
Minimum requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Occupational Safety, Safety Engineering, Safety Management or related degree
- 5+ years in EH&S related field
- Ability to work with cross-functional groups and manage programs that impact the entire site
- Computer skills including MS Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint
- Experience in compiling and leading training exercises for groups of employees
Preferred requirements:
- Experience with ISO 14001 and 45001
- Experience in sterilization, manufacturing and/or industrial setting
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Registered Environmental Manager (REM), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or related.
- Ergonomic risk reduction experience in manufacturing, laboratory or office setting.
- Working experience in regulated environments setting including the management of air permits, Continuous Emission Monitoring (CEMS) systems Performance Specifications (PS), and regulatory bodies
- DOT Hazardous Materials General Awareness (Title 49 CFR, Part 172, Subpart H) certificate
- Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certificate
- RCRA Hazardous Waste Management (Title 40 CFR, Part 265) certificate

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
