Engineer, Prin S/W

Engineer, Software: Develops software systems, applications, firmware, and/or provides software systems testing and validation in support of Manufacturing Engineering. Performs any of the following:  Applications: Responsible for analyzing, designing, programming, debugging, and modification of local, network/internet-related computer programs for maunfacturing applications. May interface with users to define system requirements and/or necessary modifications. Responsible for analyzing, designing, programming, debugging, and modification of real-time applications. Requires knowledge of real-time operating systems and software. Work often involves knowledge of modeling and simulation software. May interface with users to define system requirements and/or necessary modifications. Firmware: Responsible for the analysis, design, programming, debugging and modification of firmware applications. Work often involves analog and digital hardware and software operating systems. Position requires knowledge and exposure to hardware design. Responsible for designing, developing, troubleshooting and debugging software programs for internal technical end users. May include software tools, utilities, databases and internet-related tools, etc. Position requires knowledge of hardware compatibility and/or hardware design. Programmers who are developing applications for technical end users should be matched here. Systems Verification: Responsible for developing, applying and maintaining quality standards for software products.

  • Designs, defines, implements system requirements, system specifications, input/output processes and working parameters by using current systems engineering methods and technologies. May include simulations, mathematical analysis and/or system interaction analysis.
  • Leads project teams to develop clear specifications, evaluates feasibility of concepts, and provides formal estimates for electrical/software designs.
  • Documents software development and/or test development by writing documents, reports, memos, change requests. Methods used are determined by approved procedures and standards.
  • Develop machine control software and integrate this software with controllers, motion controllers, vision systems, and other instrumentation.
  • Tracks software development effort by creating and maintaining records in the approved tracking management tool.
  • Solves engineering problems by analyzing the situation and recommending corrective or alternative actions.
  • Analyzes, coordinates system partitioning (i.e. hardware/software partitioning) and total system integration by using systems engineering practices.
  • Continuously improves process and work methodologies by interfacing with peers/cross-functional groups and analyzing activities to improve workflow and work processes.
  • Mentors Engineers in engineering activities/methodologies and domain knowledge.
  • Analyzes and coordinates system testing (i.e. validation, verification).

Management Requirements

B.S. Electrical/Computer Engineering preferred, 9+ years of related work experience .  Experience on Medical Device/Pharmaceutical industry. Knowledge and experience designing and implementing machine vision inspection systems. Able to specify and select vision systems components such as cameras, lenses, filters and lighting among others. Experience with the integration of vision inspections systems and PLC based control systems. Must be able to assess the actual system and identify requirements for successful vision systems implementation. Assessment includes impact and modifications to existing PLC and HMI applications, machine modifications to install new vision systems hardware and quality documentation impacted. Previous experience with Cognex Vision Pro, Cognex Insight, Allen Bradley PLCs and Rockwell Automation HMI software is required. Fully Bilingual
