We are seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Manager I on a defined term basis (18 months) to join our team.

Job Purpose:

Advises and guides the company and demonstrates leadership on EH&S matters to ensure the safety and health of the workforce, and the protection of the environment.  Ensures the company is aware of, and complies with applicable environmental, health and safety legislative and other requirements. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as contact for HSA, Galway City Fire Service, OSHA, etc. Work with relevant regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations.
• Understand and complies with all the regulations governing the health and safety systems, including knowledge of ISO 45001
• Lead & develop EHS specialists while creating an environment that motivates people who can work in a high performance, matrixed and results-orientated organisation.
• As the EH&S leader, inspire and motivate employees & contractors across all areas of the site.
• Ensure Facilities projects are managed in accordance with Construction Regulations.
• Provide strategic and proactive direction on initiatives that will enhance the EH&S mission
• Liaise with the VP Operations, Human Resources Director and site Leadership Teams and the Management Teams to identify environmental, health and safety objectives for the site.
• Create a multi-year strategic plan to deliver zero carbon emissions from the BSC Galway site. 
• Establish, sustain & improve metrics for ensuring EH&S system effectiveness.
• Direct and manage all aspects of the Occupational Health programme and liaise closely with HR and other stakeholder functions.
• Lead and coordinate EH&S related emergency situations, including governance of the emergency response system for Sterilization
• Sustain an effective safety risk management process with emphasis on ensuring proper controls around hazardous materials & electrical systems.
• Establish governance management of employee case litigation and settlement.
• Work with EH&S counterparts from across the company to leverage EH&S resources and programs that positively impact EH&S performance and reduce costs for EH&S activities.

Education & Experience:

• Level 8 Honours Bachelor Degree (240 credits) in Occupational Health & Safety or relevant discipline with 10+ years experience.
• Degree or Postgraduate qualification in Occupational Health & Safety highly desirable.
• Appropriate professional certifications in related fields preferred i.e. CMIOSH.
• Knowledgeable of legislative requirements, and systems needed to implement sound EH&S practice.
• 5+ years management experience in leading a team of EH&S specialists
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
• Ability to work autonomously & manage production related EH&S work
