We are seeking a Senior Manager EH&S, Hazardous Materials Global on a permanent basis to join us on our mission.
About the role:
The Senior Manager EH&S, Global Hazardous Materials, will lead the development and implementation of strategies to manage hazardous materials across the company’s global operations. They will work very closely with EHS functions globally and be responsible for assuring regulatory compliance, chemical safety, exposure control, safe chemical handling, storage and transportation. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with international regulations, minimizing environmental impact, and promoting a safe workplace.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and execute a global strategy for hazardous materials management, aligning with the company’s business objectives, safety requirements, sustainability goals and regulatory requirements.
- Develop 3-to-5-year management strategy for Hazardous materials that anticipates and plans for likely regulatory changes, business expansions, climate risk challenges and other foreseeable changes.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant international, national, and local regulations regarding hazardous materials. Stay updated on changes in legislation and industry standards.
- Maintain a process for monitoring and responding to pending regulatory controls for hazardous materials and ensure alignment with operational and business requirements is achieved.
- Represent the Company on relevant trade associations and other regulatory bodies that are focused on regulatory issues related to hazardous materials.
- Risk Management:
- Ensure processes are in place and effective to identify and assess employee, facility and community risks associated with hazardous materials.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies for hazardous materials that minimises the potential for adverse events. Provide for specific rapid emergency response procedures where needed.
- Policy Development:
- Create and maintain policies and standards for the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Establish controls for the safe introduction, substitution, obsolesce of hazardous material used in the Companies global operations. Create a global policy for hazardous materials inventory management including storage and quantities controls.
- Training and Education:
- Oversee the development and delivery of training programs for employees on hazardous materials management and safety protocols.
- Ensure training and educational qualifications of all personnel handling and managing hazardous materials are appropriate to the duties expected of them and all regulatory training requirements are in place.
- Incident Response:
- Establish a consistent global reporting process for all hazardous materials incidents, spanning all functions of the organization.
- Lead the response to hazardous material incidents, including investigation, reporting, and corrective actions.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborate with relevant internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, industry groups, and community organizations.
- Function as the EHS Hazardous Materials Subject Matter Expert for relevant functional leaders and the Company Senior Leadership. Provide guidance and expert opinion when requested.
- Sustainability Initiatives:
- Support the company’s sustainability initiatives by promoting the reduction, substitution, and safe management of hazardous materials.
- Provide hazardous materials supports for Sustainability and Product Stewardship needs, such as Life Cycle Assessment, Carbon Neutrality, CSRD reporting and other ad-hoc requirements as they arise.
- Performance Monitoring:
- Establish metrics and reporting systems to monitor the effectiveness of hazardous materials management programs.
- Develop and implement a hazardous materials assurance program that verifies the effectiveness of programs at operations sites and across regional sites.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in science, Chemistry, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in hazardous materials management, or related field, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Experience in an international setting a distinct advantage.
- In-depth knowledge of international hazardous materials regulations and best practices. Strong chemistry knowledge required.
- Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills. Ability to work effectively in a global, cross-functional team environment. Experience in hazard analysis, such as HAZOP, is desirable.
- Relevant certifications in Hazardous Materials Management, Industrial Hygiene, risk assessment, are a plus.

Job Logistics:
- Position may require up to 5% travel on irregular basis.

- Our US/PR locations (Arden Hills, Maple Grove, Marlborough, Dorado)
- Our Costa Rica locations (Coyol, Heredia)
- Language: Fully fluent in English is essential.
