We are seeking a Senior R&D Engineer / Endoscopy on a Defined Term (18 Months) basis to join our team.
Job Purpose:
Our Research and Development team is shaping the future of endoscopy. The Senior R&D Engineer will drive innovation in new product development. This role involves creating new technologies, products, materials, processes, or equipment with minimal supervision. The engineer will independently, or as part of a team, develop, direct, and execute plans for major segments of complex projects. The engineer compiles and analyzes operational, test, and research data to establish technical specifications for designing or modifying products, processes, and materials. The focus will be on conducting and leading development work to achieve optimal results in clinical applications as part of the Endoscopy R&D metal stents team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Consistently generates innovative and unique solutions to market needs and submits idea disclosures. Work is expected to result in the development of new or refined products, processes or equipment.
- Successfully complete complex engineering work in one or more of the following: technology development, product design and development, test of materials or products, preparation of specifications, process study, research investigation (animal and clinical studies), and report preparation.
- Demonstrate knowledge of research and development phases, such as: technology development (TDP), and product development processes (PDP), through delivery of high quality and high impact deliverables.
- Work independently to plan and schedule own/ small team activities necessary to meet timelines. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions.
- Review & contribute to designs, procurement, and fabrication of tooling and fixtures.
- Select techniques to solve complex problems and make sound design recommendations.
- Design and coordinate complex engineering tests and experiments.
- Summarize, analyze, and draw conclusions from complex test results.
- Assess the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products, or equipment.
- Design and prepare complex reports to communicate results to technical community.
- Coordinate, manage, and document project goals and progress and recommends appropriate revisions.
- Identify risks/issues that impact project timeline, performance, or COGS and communicate technical status, recommendations and tradeoffs to stakeholders.
- May interface with physicians/cath Lab personnel to obtain feedback on concepts and performance of new devices.
- Translate customer needs into product requirements and design specifications.
- Work cooperatively with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing on complex projects to ensure project success.
- May train and/or provide work direction and task prioritization to technicians and engineers.
- May lead projects within the function or department and/or represents a specialized field in larger project teams. Influences middle management on business solutions.
- Passion for learning about relevant anatomy, disease states, and therapies, understanding clinical use scenarios, and solving problems for end users.
- Present, explain and defend technical decisions and assumptions during Technical/Design Reviews.
- Ability to travel intermittently to meet the needs of the business.
Education & Experience:
- Level 8 bachelor’s degree (240 credits) in Engineering/Science, preferably Mechanical, Materials or Biomedical Engineering.
- 5+ years in a Design /Manufacturing or healthcare environment.
- R&D/Technical experience, preferably in the Medical Device sector.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Available for international travel as required.
