We are seeking an Apprentice Technician on a defined term (4 years) basis to join our team. 

Job Purpose: 

The successful candidate will have the opportunity with Boston Scientific Cork to complete a state recognised apprenticeship through SOLAS in Toolmaking. The apprenticeship is a combination of on-the-job training and experience with specific block releases for tuition/training with SOLAS. The apprenticeship is governed by SOLAS and is standards based leading to a recognised Trade Qualification. The overall duration is 4 years provided all phases are successfully completed. The apprenticeship consists of 7 phases: 3 off-the-job and 4 on-the-job. Off the job training is classroom based and will be determined by SOLAS. This will require block periods of travel outside of Cork. Upon successful completion of the apprentice program, employees can apply for technician positions available for progression.

Key Responsibilities: 

The successful Candidate will gain extensive experience working in a modern equipped Toolroom and will be tutored by experienced qualified Toolmakers in the following areas:

1. Machining (Drilling, Turning, Milling, Grinding) using both manual and CNC equipment.

2. Mechanical Design

3. Technical Drawings & SolidWorks

Education & Experience: 

The minimum Leaving Certificate requirements for entry into the proposed programmes is a pass (GradeO6/H7 or better) in five Leaving Certificate subjects (must include Mathematics) with a minimum of 250 points, or equivalent. Proof of this will be requested.

Additional Leaving Certificate Pass grade or higher in applied Mathematics or Physics an advantage but not essential.

Minimum 18 years of age.
